After making a major comeback in Black Adam, it appeared like Henry Cavill was back as Superman—but things have taken an unexpected turn. Following the release of Black Adam, there were claims that a sequel to Man of Steel was in the works, with The Flash director Andy Muschietti taking an interest in directing a film that was comparable in tonality to the Richard Donner films, but the status of the film appears to be unknown due to a leadership change at DC Studios.
The Flash Cameo
Cavill shot a cameo for DC Studios’ upcoming The Flash movie in September, according to reports, but “there is a discussion inside the studio as to whether or not to include the cameo and if its appearance guarantees something that the studio would have no intentions of fulfilling.”
Many fans will be surprised given Cavill’s short but remarkable cameo at the end of Black Adam, which was backed by Cavill’s Instagram post formally confirming his comeback as the DCU’s Super-Man.
What Really Happened ?
It could be related to Black Adam. The film either made a loss or made a tiny profit. That poor box office performance may have affected Superman, but it still doesn’t make logical sense. Superman and Black Adam are not the same character. Particularly on a popularity scale. Even if that were the truth, it wouldn’t explain why WB allowed fans to believe Cavill was back and let him record a video claiming it if they didn’t have confidence in the actor’s future position in the DC Universe. If this is all true, WB will have to address all of these questions.
Henry Cavill And James Gunn
Cavill has shown a desire to sit down with DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn to explore the future of Superman in the DC Universe. “He’s clearly a very, very talented man,” the actor remarked. “I can’t wait to sit down and have long, long discussions with him.” It’s unclear whether such a meeting took place, but Gunn recently denied reports that Cavill had struck a deal for multiple film and television appearances. “I’m not sure if you’re lying on purpose or being taken advantage of by someone lying to you, but, as I’ve stated before on here, NO ONE knows what’s going on at DC Studios right now except myself and Peter,” “That includes drafting any new contracts for anyone.”
