Margot Robbie, who is known for her upcoming movie Barbie with Ryan Gosling, had her breakout role in The Wolf of Wall Street. Directed by Martin Scorsese, the movie received critical acclaim and commercial success, with a global box office figure of around $407 million. While the movie opened doors for Robbie’s career, it was not a very glamorous experience for the actress behind the scenes.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Robbie shared how she got injured while performing one of the movie’s wildest scenes. The scene in question is where Robbie and Leonardo DiCaprio get intimate while lying on a boatload of cash. Robbie said, “I got a million paper cuts on my back from all that money! It’s not as glamorous as it sounds. If anyone is ever planning on having sex on top of a pile of cash: don’t. Or maybe real money is a bit softer, but the fake money is like paper, and when I got up off the bed, I turned around to get my robe and everyone gasped. I said, ‘What is it?’ And they said, ‘You look like you’ve been whipped a million times. Your back is covered in a thousand red scratches.'”

Robbie’s Uncomfortable Experience On The Set

Getting papercuts from a s*x scene was not the only time Robbie underwent discomfort or embarrassment. The eyes of many people were glued to her while getting intimate on camera, which was not an easy feat. Naomi’s s*x scenes with Jordan might have come off as effortless to fans, but, as Robbie said, in reality, things are seldom as coruscating as they appear to be on cameras.

Robbie shared another experience where she had to pretend to be touching herself for 17 hours straight while shooting in a tiny bedroom with 30 crew members. She said, “It doesn’t come across when you’re watching the movie, but in reality, we’re in a tiny bedroom with 30 crew crammed in. And for 17 hours I’m pretending to be touching myself. It’s just a very weird thing, and you have to bury the embarrassment and absurdity, really deep, and fully commit.”

The Wolf of Wall Street, with its star-studded cast and intriguing plot, became a prized possession of Scorsese’s after becoming his highest-grossing movie ever. However, behind the scenes, the movie’s experience was not as glamorous as the audience perceived it to be. The movie may have given Robbie her breakthrough in Hollywood, but it also gave her some unpleasant experiences on set.
