Irish actor Ray Stevenson, known for his roles in Marvel and Star Wars films, tragically passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023. He was only 58 years old. The news was confirmed by Stevenson’s publicist, although the cause of death has not been disclosed.
Italian website Spettacoli was the first to report Stevenson’s death, revealing that he had been hospitalized on the island of Ischia while filming his upcoming movie, Cassino on Ischia.

Stevenson was widely recognized and appreciated by comic book enthusiasts for his portrayal of Volstagg, a supporting character in all three films of the Thor trilogy within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Additionally, he took on the lead role as the Punisher in the 2008 film Punisher: War Zone. In the Star Wars franchise, he voiced Gar Saxon in two episodes of Star Wars Rebels and two episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
