Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is the architect of the MCU. His Marvel Cinematic Universe is now in its Phase 4 and is chugging forward better than ever before.
The latest MCU outing Spider-Man: No Way Home, has already made a billion dollars and is still earning more while garnering amazing reviews. Coming up next is Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love, and Thunder, etc.
Another movie that will come out soon is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The movie has just started production, and there’s a lot of work to be done regarding filming and production. But overall, James Gunn’s third MCU solo film is going along well, and it’s slated for a May 2023 release for now.
With this third James Gunn movie, the Guardians franchise is going to become a trilogy. As a result, Marvel wants the gang of intergalactic misfits to go out with a bang. Before showing up for their movie, the guardians will be in Thor: Love and Thunder briefly.
After this, they will be in the Holiday Special on Disney+ as well. Overall, the group will be facing a ton of challenges and this includes interacting with Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock as well as the High Evolutionary.
We don’t know much about the movie at all for now since it has just begun filming. But the Marvel Studios team are having positive reactions to the work being done on the movie.
One of the team members was MCU head honcho Kevin Feige, and in a recent interview, James Gunn shared how Feige feels regarding the entire film.
Sitting down for an interview with Collider, James Gunn, the director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 talked about the work that’s been done thus far on his third Guardians movie.
He specifically talked about actor Chukwudi Iwuji, with whom Gunn worked as well on another project, a DC HBO Max one called Peacemaker. The director also revealed that the actor has people amazed at how good he is in this yet undisclosed role.
Gunn also said the show showed Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige a little of what has been done, and Feige and the team’s response was extremely positive. Here’s what Gunn said in the interview:
“It’s going great. Chukwudi, who plays Murn in Peacemaker, is one of the main characters in the movie, and people are freaking out over how good this guy is. Literally freaking out. I think that I’m really happy. I gave a bunch of scenes to Marvel right before Christmas break. Kevin [Feige] went… They were all really, really, really stoked. But also, it’s not going to be the movie people… It’s different than what people are going to expect. It’s a hard road, but I’m really happy with it so far.”
Guardians of the Galaxy and James Gunn both became household names with their 2014 MCU movies. Now that the Guardians are closing their trilogy, Kevin Feige and the team at Marvel Studios are making sure that the gang gets the best stories possible in the MCU.
Now, Gunn and his team have a long road to walk. But these early positive reactions from the bosses indicate that the movie is shaping up well, even though it’s their first solo movie in more than half a decade.
Not to mention the fact that this news has piqued fans’ interest more, and they are hyped to see the character Chukwudi Iwuji is playing in the movie. This should help his career more after the movie, since his collaboration with Gunn for Peacemaker gave him the first boost.
So, whether he plays the High-Evolutionary or maybe someone equally powerful, Iwuji will surely have fans guessing about the character he is playing and how he will affect the MCU.
Overall, Guardians of the Galaxy is looking poised to be one of the biggest Phase 4 outings ofromMarvel Studios, even though this slate includes biggies like Spider-Man: No Way Home.
With Feige and Gunn already excited over what the film will bring, ans are in a for a surprise that will make their investment in the intergalactic misfits worth it.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will debut in theaters on May 5, 2023.
