The Marvel Cinematic Universe offered fans four spectacular theatrical releases in the year 2021. Following its grand run, Marvel Studios is preparing for its 2022 inaugural with one of its most-anticipated solo outings. Benedict Cumberbatch’s sorcerer returns for the sequel titled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Cumberbatch’s titular hero forms an alliance with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch. The two powerful magicians will take Phase 4 to a whole new level by fighting off horrifyingly vicious threats.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange will carry the burden of tackling all problems in his second standalone movie in the MCU. But to add to the spectacle, the chaotic exploration of the Multiverse will allow Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch to unleash the full extent of her enhanced powers.
After her appearance in WandaVision, Wanda unlocked her dynamic and terrifying alter-ego. Thus setting the premises for higher levels of magic outbursts. And the sequel’s first trailer revealed at the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home did an impressive job at teasing this new intriguing feature.
The intensity of Wanda’s powers will be a pivotal part of her character’s narrative in the Multiverse of Madness. But her new magic comes at a cost. Meaning the destructive behavior she possessed in Episode 9 of WandaVision on Disney+.
So far, Marvel fans have had the privilege of catching some exciting glimpses at Scarlet Witch’s updated outfit. And now a new image offers the best look yet at her striking red costume.
A user on Twitter @itsjustanotherx recently shared the official concept art for Doctor Strange 2. The art displays Elizabeth Olsen’s full new costume from Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
According to the picture, the costume that Wanda is wearing is the new Scarlet Witch costume she designed for herself in the last episode of WandaVision. And it closely resembles the one seen in the Disney+ show’s March 2021 version. However, there is one change in her Doctor Strange sequel appearance. And it is that the sleeves of her suit slide down across Wanda’s arms. As the Scarlet Witch levitates in the air, surrounded by a room, her striking red hair flows.
Ever since Wanda’s upgrade of character on the Disney+ show, fans have had the chance to capture various shots of the Scarlet Witch’s stunning costume. And as Wanda’s magical powers extend themselves in the Doctor Strange sequel, the suit will see new modifications. The image seen above highlights these specific changes. Especially the darker elements of Wanda’s character, as her character calls upon more power.
We still have no clue how the idea of including full-arm sleeves to her superhero costume occurred to Olsen’s character. Mainly because it is the only apparent distinction that can be made compared to her first look as Scarlet Witch in 2021. Also, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ first trailer revealed Wanda’s blackened fingernails. Which reminds fans of Agatha Harkness from WandaVision as she accessed Dark Magic. However, Wanda’s fingers look less affected as she casts her spell.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be the first movie in MCU’s slate for 2022. And from all the information we have so far, it is clear that the film will allow Wanda’s character to evolve, both personally and through her abilities. This will be in alignment with her various costume upgrades as she stands alongside Doctor Strange in facing the chaotic Multiversal outrage. It is still dubious whether the narrative will keep her fixed on her superhero path. Although, whatever lies ahead for her future, one thing is certain. Olsen’s upcoming appearance in the MCU will offer a fascinating experience to Marvel fans.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled for release in theaters worldwide on May 6, 2022.
