Marvel Studios developing a new Disney+ series “Wonder Man” with Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest.
According to “The Hollywood Reporter” Andrew Guest will be the head writer with Cretton executive producing and possibly directing the series.
The Wonder Man project is in early development now, the filming could begin in early 2023.
Marvel’s Wonder Man
The Wonder Man is one of the oldest Marvel characters, initially introduced as a villain in Avengers No 9 (October 1964).
However, He was reborn as a hero and a part of the avengers in the late 1970s.
In 1980, Wonder man appeared as a founding member of the West Coast Avengers and with the public persona of an actor and stuntman.
Wonder Man’s character is more connected with Wanda and Vision in the comics and he even developed feelings for Wanda.
Previously, the Wonder Man role was given to Nathan Fillion in MCU and set to appear in The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
Unfortunately, James Gunn couldn’t incorporate Nathan Fillion’s Wonder Man into the movie.
Origin and Powers
Simon Williams is the son of rich industrialist Sanford Williams, owner of Williams Innovations.
After the death of his father, Simon inherits the factory but the company’s profit fell due to its biggest competitor Tony Stark and his company Stark Industries.
Baron Zemo used his hatred for Stark and transformed him into an ion-powered being and used him as a pawn to infiltrate the Avengers.
As a result, when the Avengers are lured into a trap and captured. Wonder Man decides to save the Avengers and ends up costing his own life.
Simon Williams got his powers due to chemical and radiation treatments with ionic energy by Baron Zemo.
Wonder Man’s ionic energy provided him with the abilities like:

- Enhanced vision and hearing
- Healing Factor
- Durability
- Ionic Energy Manipulation
- Energy Enhanced Strike
Similarly, Wonder Man also has virtual invulnerability, immortality, stamina, agility, speed, and instantaneous reflexes.
