Marvel Studios announced the second season of its first animated series, What If…?, would debut in early 2023. However, it’s now been three months into the year, and there’s no sign of its arrival. A recent update on the show’s Disney+ page, changing “Early 2023” to “Coming Soon,” suggests that the series is indefinitely delayed, with no official release date.

Rumors And Reports Of Delay

While an industry insider recently claimed that What If…? Season 2 has been pushed back to 2024, neither Marvel nor Disney has commented on these claims. It’s possible that Marvel Studios is slowing down its Disney+ output, which may have resulted in the delay.

Teaser For An Upcoming Episode

Kahhori

While fans may not know when the series will return, Marvel has teased an upcoming episode of the season. The episode will introduce an MCU original hero to the world, Kahhori. The premise of her episode asks the question: What if the Tesseract fell to Earth and landed in the sovereign Haudenosaunee Confederacy before the colonization of America?

Other Installments To Expect

Doctor Strange
Captain Carter

Other installments in the upcoming season include a Winter Soldier-inspired Captain Carter story, the inclusion of Black Widow characters such as Red Guardian, and an adaptation of the fan-favorite comic series 1602.

It’s unclear when the show will return, but it’s worth reiterating that indefinitely delayed doesn’t mean canceled. The delays may not give fans much hope about the show’s quality, but new episodes of What If…? will arrive one day, hopefully sooner rather than later.
