Marvel’s early merchandise for Thor: Love and Thunder reveals the extent of power that Gorr the god Butcher will bring into the MCU. In Thor’s entire run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the God of Thunder has defeated numerous dynamic villains. His rivals have been influential big-timers like Loki, Malekith, Ultron, Hela and of course, the “Mad Titan” Thanos. All these villains have challenged Thor in different ways. And now, Marvel fans are eagerly waiting to see who will stand up against the God of Thunder in Phase 4.

The Origin Of Gorr In Marvel Comics

Marvel has recently confirmed the main villain of Thor: Love and Thunder. Christian Bale will make his MCU debut as Gorr the God Butcher. The character was introduced in the comics in 2012. He was a prominent presence in Jason Aaron’s iteration of Thor. And it goes without saying that the villain was quite popular in his run. Initially Gorr was not as strong as to fight someone like Thor Odinson. He faced hardships and desperate times.

When he patiently asked for things to change for his people and his planet, he was met with people around him dying. But then, he saw the two Gods fight each other. Gorr took this chance and killed one of them. Thus becoming a formidable figure in the cosmos, and receiving the title of the God Butcher. Being the killer of a God, his presence in Thor: Love and Thunder is making fans question the extent of his powers to be displayed in the film. Will he be any more fearsome than the most menacing MCU villains?

Gorr Will Be Very Powerful In Love And Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder LEGO set, Marvel Early merchandise

Marvel’s early merchandise for Thor: Love and Thunder has revealed Gorr as a terrifying danger to our hero. He is seen fighting Thor Odinson and Mighty Thor. The LEGO set spectacularly displays Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor fighting Gorr the God Butcher in the air, while Thor Odinson tackles him from beneath. Not only that, the set includes Valkyrie and Korg as well. It is likely that the two will fight Thor 4’s villain at some point in the MCU.

According to the toys, Gorr will be dynamic enough for both Thors to fight him at the same time. The toys only add fuel to the hype. More so because Gorr will fight both versions of Thor as they wield repaired Mjolnir and Stormbreaker. Up until now, the MCU has only ever seen Thanos fight characters wielding the two hammers together. This means that in terms of power, Gorr the God Butcher meets the Mad Titan’s level.

While Thor Odinson and Mighty Thor wield Mjolnir and Stormbreaker, Gorr has his own weapon of choice. And it is All-Black the Necrosword. The weapon falls under the same category of symbiote that produced Venom in the comics. The weapon was forged by Knull. When acquired by Gorr, it granted him the strength to kill gods, Celestials, and other powerful deities.

Initially, fans were uncertain about Gorr using the Necrosword. This is because its features align with Hela’s powers in Thor: Ragnarok. With that said, it is still not official that the weapon will have the same symbiotic origins as the comics. However, the way Spider-Man: No Way Home ended, it is possible that MCU will incorporate a symbiote narrative into the mix.

Right now, the merchandise is making Gorr appear as an appalling villain in Thor: Love and Thunder. But that doesn’t mean that he won’t get more dreadful as we move ahead. The film is likely to put the two opponents in a situation that challenges their strengths and weaknesses. This includes disclosing the fact that it was Gorr that murdered the Celestial, whose severed head became Knowhere, the Greek god Zeus, or Black Panther’s god Bast.

Gorr could also be seen encountering more than one version of Thor. The comics showed Gorr up against three Thors: a young Thor, a regular Thor, and a future King Thor. So in order to portray the extent of Gorr’s power, Thor: Love and Thunder could use certain surprise elements and make the film even more epic.
