Marvel ended the year with its biggest film Spider-Man: No Way Home. And now, fans are more excited than ever for the franchise’s upcoming projects in the next year. The friendly neighborhood Spider-Man clearly stole all the limelight for MCU this year. However, for the year 2022, there is an intense hype building around Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

From whatever little information we have so far, the film will bring back most of the key cast and characters from its previous outing. Additionally, there will be some new introductions, including some rumored big-time Atlanteans.

There are still no official details of the plot yet. But several discussions hint towards an appearance from Namor and Namora. So, to expect a possible disagreement between Wakanda and Atlantis in the upcoming movie is a safe bet. Both nations have seen an old standing competition in the comics. And it is about time the feud entered the MCU for fans to dwell on too.

Besides that, the project will also make an undeniably big and long anticipated reveal about who will be recast as Black Panther following Chadwick Boseman’s death.

However, all of these confirmations will see light in time. For now, a trustworthy source has dropped in some details about one of the film’s main characters. While adored by fans, the character still needs a stronger standing out.

Rumor Reveals Okoye’s Relationship Status In Black Panther 2

Daniel Richtman, a reliable scooper and source for legitimate details, recently posted an intriguing information regarding a chief character in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on his Patreon

The information suggests that Danai Gurira’s Okoye “will have a same-sex relationship with another Dora Milaje in the film.”

However, Richtman did not reveal anything about who that someone might be.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Prowls Towards Representation

There was a time when Marvel Studios’ content fell behind when it came to representing the queer community. In fact, the Studio even received some light denunciation for the matter. This in turn led to the criticism being drawn towards the comic books their works were based on. Fortunately, though, Marvel seems to be amending their terms. After all, it’s better late than never.

Prior to No Way Home, it was Marvel’s Eternals that hit the big screen with its elaborate ensemble. The cast was Marvel’s most diverse yet. This included Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos, who was portrayed to be the first openly gay super-powered hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

And now, the studio delightfully continues the streak with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. But who is this mysterious figure?

Who Could Be Okoye’s Partner In The MCU?

Our foremost speculation is with Ayo. The character has not made an appearance since The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. However, there were some rumors that hinted at a deleted scene in Black Panther. Apparently, the scene involved a playful flirtatious exchange between Okoye and Ayo. So, is it possible that director Ryan Coogler will bring back the relationship?

Another possibility, however unlikely, is Nakia. But the reason Marvel Studios will not consider this arc is firstly because of the above-mentioned scene. And secondly, Nakia’s character is more present and closer to T’Challa.

Besides these two, there are chances that Marvel will introduce an entirely new character. Michaela Coel is already in discussions to appear as Aneka. In the original comics, Aneka is in a relationship with Ayo. So maybe instead of those two, it is Okoye who represents the relationship in the MCU.

But for now, fans are going to have to rely only on the rumors. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to release on November 11, 2022. That’s when we will actually see how things work out on the big screen.
