Ever since the Big Bang of Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Studios) at SDCC 2022, the expectations became automatically high for their next appearance, i.e. at D23 2022. You can check out our full coverage for Marvel Studio’s presentation at SDCC 2022 here.

In their movie slate for Phase Six of ‘The Multiverse Saga’, there were a bunch of unannounced empty slots for future projects. Some of them are already confirmed while others are semi-confirmed. With D23 set to take place on September 9-10, many fans believe that those projects might pop up there and we might get some information about them.

It has officially been confirmed on the D23 website that Marvel Studios is set to take place on Saturday, September 10, at 1 p.m. EST and will feature announcements for MCU’s future. They will be joined by filmmakers, celebrity talent, and surprise guests from Marvel Studios who will join Lucasfilm and others onstage in Hall D23 to showcase various theatrical and Disney+ titles.

Let’s speculate what these might be.

1. Fantastic Four Cast

Marvel’s Fantastic Four

Marvel Studios will finally reveal the official cast of Marvel’s Fantastic Four which is currently set to release on November 8, 2024. The name of the director of the movie might also be revealed. YouTuber Grace Randolph (‘Beyond The Trailer’) said that Marvel is “zeroing in” on a Fantastic Four director. That announcement will likely drop at D23.

2. Eternals & Shang Chi sequel

Eternals and Shang Chi

Chloe Zhao’s Eternals was a mixed bag. However, one cannot deny the fact that there is still a lot that could be told about them, now that Harry Styles has joined the squad. Recent reports have claimed that there indeed will be a sequel to Eternals, however, whether Zhao will return, remains to be seen. In the case of Shang Chi, seeing its tremendous success, a sequel was inevitable. So, Marvel might very likely announce dates and other details for Eternals 2 and Shang Chi 2.

3. Deadpool 3

Deadpool

Fans all over are eager to see their favorite foul-mouthed mutant make his debut under the Marvel banner. Ryan Reynolds, in his humor, has continuously been teasing his involvements with the studio officials regarding Deadpool 3 in his social media posts for years. Feige has also earlier said that they are determined to keep Deadpool 3 as ‘R-rated’ at every cost. So the gory-xxx humor of the beloved franchise shall be intact. However, what shall be its official title and date, might be revealed at D23.

4. Details of Secret Invasion, Armor Wars, and Nova

Nova in Marvel Comics

Secret Invasion is an upcoming American television miniseries created by Kyle Bradstreet for the streaming service Disney+. Along with Emilia Clark in a yet undisclosed role, the series shall feature Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Cobie Smulders, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle. It is set to release as a part of Phase Five of the MCU in early 2023.

With no official date set yet, the series Armor Wars is rumored to be a part of Phase Six of MCU. Officially confirmed, it shall feature Don Cheadle as War Machine. In the series, he has to deal with the consequences of Tony Stark’s tech falling into the wrong hands.

Deadline has reported that Marvel is developing a Nova project with Moon Knight scribe Sabir Pirzada on board to write. The show will feature the adventures and life of Richard Ryder aka Nova, after Xandar’s destruction by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. It is unknown for now whether this will be developed as a feature film or a limited series for Disney+.

5. Marvel’s Specials: Werewolf By Night & GOTG Holiday Special

Werewolf By Night in Marvel Comics

Marvel is eyeing their two-holiday releases this year. These are – Werewolf By Night (WBN) at Halloween and Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special (GOTG: HS) at Christmas this year. So far, it has been revealed that Michael Giacchino will be directing WBN and James Gunn shall return for GOTG: HS. However, with both the projects reportedly already being filmed and done, there should definitely be an announcement at D23.

6. Ten Rings, Wakanda & Okoye Series

Wakanda in MCU

Confirmed long back by the Trades, Marvel Studios is developing three spin-off series based on its movies. Two of them are based on Black Panther Universe titled – Wakanda and Okoye, and the other is based on the Ten Rings organization from Shang Chi. Perhaps D23 shall see an official announcement of their release dates and official titles.

7. Wonder Man Series

Another Disney+ series based on Wonder Man has been confirmed by the trades as well this year. It shall be directed by Shang CHi’s Destin Daniel Cretton. The series will follow Simon Williams becoming a superhero and taking on the mantle of Wonder Man. The series is also rumored to feature Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlet Witch). Marvel Studios is expected to acknowledge the project at D23 with the reveal of official cast members and its director.

8. Directors for Avengers: Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars

Amidst all the speculations, Kevin Feige confirmed that the Russo Brothers shall not be involved with – Avengers: Kang Dynasty or Avengers: Secret Wars in any form. After a few days, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed in an exclusive report that Shang Chi’s director Destin Daniel Cretton has been roped in to direct Avengers: Kang Dynasty. However, nothing has been said about Avengers: Secret Wars. Hopefully, Feige shall make some official reveals for these two highly anticipated projects at D23.

Of course, all of these are mere speculations and shall be taken with a grain of salt. However, the above list contains the most likely announcements that shall occur at D23 this year. In any case, it seems the future plans of the MCU’s The Multiverse Saga will be more clear after Disney’s event this September.
