Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 set up Adam Warlock to be a big hero in the MCU, but plans for his future are repeating one of the biggest complaints about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 4. The original Guardians of the Galaxy team had their final adventure together in their third movie, and in a mid-credits scene, the new Guardians team was introduced.

Lack Of Specific Future Plans For Adam Warlock In The MCU

Although Adam Warlock’s role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 wasn’t as significant as expected, making him part of the new Guardians team opens the door for his return and a more prominent role in the MCU’s future. However, there doesn’t seem to be specific plans for Adam Warlock’s future post-Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Director James Gunn mentioned that while Adam Warlock can be important to the MCU, there aren’t clear plans for him after his debut movie.

In an interview, actor Will Poulter, who portrays Adam Warlock, also expressed uncertainty about the character’s future following the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This lack of clarity in Adam Warlock’s trajectory echoes one of the significant flaws of Phase 4—teasing characters without a clear plan for their next steps.

Adam Warlock’s Importance And Deserving Role In The MCU

Phase 4 of the MCU introduced numerous characters and storylines, many of which ended up as unresolved teases. Adam Warlock, being one of the most anticipated characters, now finds himself caught in this pattern. As a powerful character with immense potential, he deserves a more significant role in the MCU. While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 didn’t fully explore Adam Warlock’s capabilities, he has the ability to achieve great feats and engage in epic battles. His character extends far beyond being a mere plot device, and he should be given the opportunity to flourish rather than serving as a fill-in whenever Marvel needs to address gaps in their narrative.
