Marvel fans have been vocal about the inconsistent episode lengths on Disney+ series, but Marvel Studios’ upcoming show Secret Invasion might just provide a solution. Scheduled for release on June 21, Secret Invasion is Marvel’s first Phase 5 series and has been marketed as a “crossover event series.”
Uniform Episode Lengths In Secret Invasion?
Empire magazine recently described Secret Invasion as having “six hour-long episodes,” suggesting that the series might feature uniform episode lengths—a departure from the varying lengths seen in previous Disney+ shows. While the exact runtimes have yet to be confirmed, this could mean an end to episodes that are significantly shorter than others, a point of frustration for viewers.
Addressing Audience Frustration And Setting A Precedent
The issue of episode lengths and the prominence of credits has been a topic of complaint among Marvel fans during series like Loki, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel. Additionally, Marvel’s 6-episode seasons seem to be getting shorter overall. Secret Invasion’s potential hour-long episodes or an average 50-minute runtime would not only provide consistency but also align with the runtime of previous shows like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. This move could address audience frustration and allow for more in-depth character development that is better suited for Disney+ storytelling.
