The fans question whether the Marvel series “What If…?” is canon now that it’s been released in the MCU Disney+’s latest Marvel series. Marvel’s New Frontier is an animated anthology series exploring alternative histories inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A single alteration in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may have a significant impact on the course of events and characters, as seen in this series. Several MCU actors reprise their roles as animated versions of their heroes in A.C. Bradley’s What If…?, which is executive produced by the director and producer. Returning actors include Hayley Atwell, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael B. Jordan, Sebastian Stan, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, and Chris Hemsworth.
Loki, from Marvel, threw the whole MCU for a loop. According to the comics, Kang the Conqueror’s doppelganger He Who Remains has been in charge of the Time Variance Authority as well as the Sacred Timeline all along. For He Who Remains, if indeed the TVA didn’t keep an eye on the chronology, the Multiverse would be let loose, resulting in a Multiversal War between an unlimited number of Kang versions. Lady Loki, the main character in the show, is skeptical of the plot. She murders the Kang version because He Who Remains stole her life with his Sacred Timeline and so unleashes the Multiverse on the MCU.
What If…?’s style is so distinct from the rest of the show that some viewers may wonder if it’s canon or not. Many MCU stars will reprise their roles in the series, but not all of them will appear in the episodes. In fact, Drax actor Dave Bautista says that he was not asked to join the series by Marvel. The series is also Marvel’s first animated production, setting it apart from the studio’s live-action efforts. Even so, it’s still a component of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What if…? is now a canon element of the Marvel world thanks to Loki’s Multiverse opening. Bradley has previously verified this in an interview with IGN.
Being able to answer the question, “What If…?” opens up a world of possibilities for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s important to note that the show is more than simply a fun mash-up of Marvel narratives. It has the potential to have a more significant influence on the course of events. What If…? figures like Peggy Carter’s Captain America replacement or a zombie Tony Stark may emerge in the MCU in the future, in different movies or TV series as alternate versions of those characters. The MCU offers the door for performers like Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans to return in the future, with their roles taking on new meanings thanks to the inclusion of alternative characters.
It’ll be interesting to watch how What If…? does with fans and how it affects the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series instantly creates a gulf with Marvel fans since certain performers no longer voice their original characters. Fans who have become used to the MCU’s regularity may find the animation disconcerting, making the episodes seem less significant than Marvel intended. Regardless, the MCU is making a concerted effort to turn What If…? into must-see television. Fans will have to wait and see whether Marvel’s plan is as important as the studio believes.
