Reva, Obi-Wan Kenobi’s new nemesis, has a personal grudge against Old Ben, which one theory claims derives from her surviving Order 66. The first scene of Obi-Wan Kenobi flashes back to a group of younglings escaping Order 66 while a Jedi dies defending them; however the children’s names have yet to be revealed. Obi-Wan Kenobi met Nari, another Order 66 survivor, on Tatooine, and it’s been implied that he’ll meet many more present or previous Jedi throughout the Disney+ series.
Early teasers for Obi-Wan Kenobi suggested that the Grand Inquisitor would be the series’ main villain, but the first two episodes reveal that Reva will be his most dangerous adversary. Reva is an Imperial Inquisitor on the lookout for any Jedi hiding in plain sight, and she has her sights set on Obi-Wan Kenobi in particular. While the Grand Inquisitor implies that Reva is hunting down Kenobi to curry favor with Darth Vader and maybe usurp Rupert Friend’s Obi-Wan Kenobi role, her pursuit of Kenobi appears to be considerably more personal. Reva is unyielding in her pursuit of Obi-Wan, whether it’s a gift for Anakin or a chance to exact revenge on the ancient Jedi Master.
The Inquisitors Were Former Jedi
While the Inquisitors wield crimson lightsabers, the antagonists are former Jedi rather than Sith. The Inquisitorius are a group of former Jedi who act as Jedi hunters for the Sith-controlled Empire, using their Force sensitivity to track down Order 66 survivors, political dissidents, and Force-sensitive infants. Reva is a former Jedi, and a very strong one at that, as an Inquisitor. Her impulsivity and readiness to rage, on the other hand, appear to indicate that she didn’t receive enough Jedi training to control her skills, as well as that she’s been tainted by the dark side for a long time – possibly since she was a child.
On the night of Order 66, a small group of younglings are training at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, only to be disturbed by clone troopers in the opening flashback to Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 1. The scene remains focused on one youngster, in particular, Ayaamii Sledge, who is said to be a young Reva. Because the youngling is unnamed and doesn’t talk, there’s no need for her character to be so prominently featured, except from the fact that she may survive Order 66. The younglings flee together when the Jedi protecting them is murdered, probably to a semi-safe spot away from the clone warriors. Because no known Star Wars characters appear in Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Order 66 flashback, recasting the scenario as the origin tale of Reva, who has presumably spent the last ten years before Obi-Wan Kenobi’s timeline seeking down her old classmates, makes a lot more sense.
Reva may have waited for the Jedi to free her from Coruscant for a long time. but the only ones that found her had already turned to the dark side, implying she didn’t believe in the cause to begin with. Reva may have had to live among the gutters and in the streets while in hiding if she was separated from the other younglings who survived Order 66 or was the only one from Obi-cold Wan’s open to make it out of the Temple alive. This could have soured the other Inquisitors’ opinion of her in their ranks.
Is Reva Trying To Save Kenobi?
The revelation that Reva was a Jedi Initiate who survived Order 66 would explain a lot about her personal grudge against Obi-Wan Kenobi. One of the most unexpected elements from Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 2 was Reva’s revelation that she knew Darth Vader’s true identity was Anakin Skywalker—one of the galaxy’s best-kept secrets. Reva may have seen Anakin butchering younglings in the Jedi Temple as she fled, which would explain how she knows his identity and why she is so loyal to him. Reva being an Order 66 survivor also makes sense, given her unwavering animosity for Obi-Wan, as his admonition in Revenge of the Sith to keep Jedi away from the Temple may have stopped other survivors from assisting her in her escape from Coruscant.
As it contextualises its series, Obi-Wan Kenobi is now focusing a lot more on Order 66, with the majority of the surprise protagonists likely being child survivors of the slaughter. The complexity of the event is made even more intriguing if it features a youngling who went through the same exact traumatic experience but came out on the other side, seeing the Jedi as the villains instead, as the Leia-focused Obi-Wan Kenobi is likely to feature the title Jedi finding more sympathetic survivors who were younglings at the time of Order 66. Reva’s villainy in Obi-Wan Kenobi is fueled by her conflicting emotions of revenge and betrayal, rather than her desire for power. This fits well with the prior struggles of Star Wars’ best antiheroes. As Obi-Wan deals with his guilt over failing Anakin, he will now have to address the other Jedi-affiliated characters he has let down.
