Doctor Strange: Journey to the Multiverse of Madness is one of those movies that gets better with every screening. The film, helmed by Sam Raimi, is a veritable gold mine for those with a sharp eye for hidden parallels and inside jokes.

Since the film has established itself as a staple in the Marvel canon, the makers are dropping hints that leave the audience wondering “what if?” Screenwriter Michael Waldron, presently working on Season 2 of Loki, recently spoke with Empire magazine, where he stated that he had planned to feature Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic in the show’s post-credit sequence.

Followers have indeed been eagerly awaiting the inclusion of Mr. Fantastic and the other members of the team into the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since Disney’s acquisition of Fox. When the company finally hired John Krasinski in the second installment of the Doctor Strange franchise, it seemed like a plea had been granted.

Waldron said that having Reed Richards in the story was important to him and that getting to write Mr. Fantastic was a lifelong goal. The screenwriter originally included the figure in a post-credits sequence since he desired to include him in the film so much.

Here’s what he said-

“In my very first draft, I wrote a tag just for the hell of it, of the events of the movie being recorded and reviewed by somebody in the Baxter Building, and a stretchy hand coming into frame to run it back.”

And who could possibly hold Waldron responsible for this? Both Krasinski’s and the audience’s delight in his presence are mutual. Waldron says, “I was always trying to have him in here someplace because Reed is possibly my favorite Marvel Comics hero.”

Reed Richards, along with Captain Carter, Professor X, Captain Marvel, and Baron Mordo, are all members of the Earth-838 Illuminati in the 2022 Multiverse of Madness. Scarlet Witch from Earth-616 possesses Wanda, and despite the best efforts of the world’s mightiest superheroes, Wanda is able to escape and go in search of her kids.

Richards attempts to show Wanda some compassion by informing her about his own children, but he is swiftly torn to shreds. As for Scarlet Witch, the screenplay hints, “She’s withdrawing herself from the board… Right now? Forever? How it turns out, time will tell. In addition, he said, “I’d want to see her again…”
