Phases 5 and 6 of the MCU franchise, which along with Phase 4 comprise The Multiverse Saga, were announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Phase 4 will end with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Phase 5 will wrap up with the MCU’s Thunderbolts, and Phase 6 will kick off with The Fantastic Four.

One of the characters of the upcoming MCU film Thunderbolts has said that the movie would not only unite an unlikely band of superheroes but will also serve as a “unique” culmination to Marvel’s Phase 5 films. Thunderbolts will include David Harbour’s Red Guardian as part of a team led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

Thunderbolts, scheduled for a release in 2024, will cap off Marvel Studios’ Phase 5 and, presumably, resolve lingering story strands. David Harbour, who plays Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian in Black Widow, has recently spoken highly of the film, promising action, laughter, and more while also concluding Phase 5.

MCU’s Thunderbolts Will Culminate Phase 5

David Harbour, who plays the title character in the upcoming 2024 Marvel film Thunderbolts, recently spoke with Comicbook.com, where he revealed some intriguing details about the production. Harbour said he would be reading the screenplay “very soon.”

“I know we go to work next year. I have not read a script but I have been told the arc of the story and how the story goes. And apparently we’ll be reading a script very soon. But it’s cool… It’s very unique. And also, it has all this cool action and cool comedy from what has been described to me. And then there is a bomb drop thing that we add to the universe, which will be very exciting for the movie to do at the end of this particular phase… whatever. Phase ‘whatever’ that we’re ending.”

The clues Harbour is hinting to deserves special attention. It seems that Thunderbolts is in for a shocking revelation. With the MCU being the way it is, however, this might signify anything.

In order to set the stage, it has been announced that Thunderbolts will serve as the last movie in Marvel Studios’ Phase 5, with Fantastic Four serving as the first film in Phase 6. Between Thunderbolts and FF, we may expect the release of further MCU projects on Disney+.

This does not even include the anticipated release of Spider-Man 4 in the middle of 2024. It’s possible that Thunderbolts marks the end of the MCU’s fifth Phase and that the subsequent films will serve as filler until the release of Fantastic Four.
