Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the producers of Sony’s Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, are teasing fans about a potential coupling between Miles and Gwen, who share a romantic chemistry. According to Phil Lord in a recent interview, as the greater storyline plays out across the multiverse, the movie will focus on the “tension between the love potential” between Gwen and Miles.

The eagerly anticipated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel, titled Across the Spider-Verse, will hit theatres on June 2, 2023, following numerous setbacks and premiere date adjustments. The interaction between Miles and Gwen will receive a lot of attention in Spider-Verse 2 amid the addition of new multiversal heroes.

Miles and Gwen had decided to become buddies when fans had last seen them in Into the Spider-Verse, finding ways to communicate despite their disparate dimensional locations. This friendship is seen to be continuing in the sequel’s trailer, which was unveiled in December 2021, when the film was scheduled to hit theatres soon after.

Relationship Between Gwen And Miles In “Across The Spider-Verse”

The relationship between Gwen and Miles will be an important subplot in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, according to Phil Lord.

According to Lord, there is conflict between the two characters’ desires to maintain and not damage their relationship and the possibility of romance between her and Miles. “Especially when they’re so young, that’s a pretty interesting place for two characters to be.”

The love relationship between Miles Morales and Gwen Stacy did exist in the comics; this was something that the creators of Into the Spider-Verse were well aware of because they planted the seeds for a potential Miles/Gwen romance early on.

Across the Spider-Verse appears to be exploring this in a way that goes far beyond Peter Parker’s teenage distress. It is also the larger history of the Spider-Man character; in whatever incarnation they arrive in, Spider-Man is repeatedly torn between heartfelt desires and heroism. We can only hope that the plot involving Miles and Gwen serves to both uphold and modernize important Spider-Man lore.

Producers Stated That Gwen’s Universe Is Going To Be Important

In order to help defeat the villain The Spot, whose body is covered in portals to other dimensions, Miles will be lured into a new multiversal adventure with even more Spider-Men, including Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac). The movie’s trailer doesn’t reveal much more because it only shows a little section of a scenario in which Stacy visits Miles’ universe to enlist him in a new quest.

This sequence, though, which is obviously from the beginning of the novel, does support what Lord and Miller have claimed. It’s plausible that The Spot originates from Spider-Gwen’s universe or has made it the gateway of his operations if the movie starts from her point of view, which would make it the central universe in the same manner that Miles Morales’ universe was for the fight against Kingpin in Into the Spider-Verse. She may be the only being in her reality capable of deducing exactly what is happening and putting together the ideal team to stop it, which is why she initially travels back to Miles’ universe.
