Sony has announced an upcoming original short film featuring Miles Morales, set to be released between Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Spider-Verse 3. The film, titled “The Spider Within,” will explore Miles’ struggles with balancing his roles as a teenager, friend, student, and neighborhood superhero.
The Synopsis Of “The Spider Within”
The film will follow Miles as he experiences a panic attack due to the various pressures he’s under. He will learn that asking for help can be as brave as helping others as Spider-Man. “The Spider Within” is part of Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Pictures Imageworks’ new mentorship program LENS (Leading and Empowering New Storytellers).
The short is set to premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2023, while Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, the third movie of the franchise, will arrive in theaters on March 29, 2024.
Is “The Spider Within” Spider-Verse 2.5?
Fans have been eagerly waiting for more Miles Morales content, including his crossover into live-action. The announcement of a new project between Spider-Verse 2 and 3 is a surprise, especially since this means Sony is releasing two Spider-Verse projects within the same month.
It’s possible that the effects of the sequel and its characters will contribute to Miles’ new story. However, since the short is set “in the world” of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, it’s uncertain whether that includes Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy or not. Regardless, “The Spider Within” is likely to be a grounded and relatable tale highlighting Miles’ own humanity.
Sony’s announcement of “The Spider Within” offers a glimpse into Miles Morales’ story between Into the Spider-Verse 2 and Spider-Verse 3. Fans can look forward to a relatable tale of Miles’ personal growth, highlighting the pressures he faces as a teenager, friend, student, and superhero.
