How does Thor 4 repeat Endgame’s Mjolnir mistake? Love and Thunder is expected to see the comeback of many beloved characters, including Mjolnir, Thor’s most important weapon, but it is also at risk of repeating a major error made in the previous Avengers: Endgame film.

New characters, locations, and events are being introduced in Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Thor, the first hero in this linked universe to receive four solo adventures. However, he won’t be alone on this one.

Thor: Love and Thunder, directed by Taika Waititi, will bring the God of Thunder back to the big screen after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The God Butcher is the most dangerous villain Thor has ever faced.

With Korg, Valkyrie, and Jane Foster, who has now become Mighty Thor, he will take on Gorr. Thor: Love and Thunder will see the return of Mjolnir, which could be a repeat of the mistake made in Avengers: Endgame by bringing back Jane Foster.

At the beginning of Thor’s MCU appearances, Mjolnir was an important part of Thor’s story, as his “worthiness” as a hero was tied to the mythical hammer’s power. When Hela destroyed Mjolnir, Ragnarok made required changes to Thor by granting him personality and a sense of humor and by displaying that his true worth and value as a hero were not linked to an object.

Stormbreaker gave Thor a new weapon in Avengers: Infinity War, but Mjolnir returned in Avengers: Endgame, and Thor: Love and Thunder is making Thor enthused about it when he should be moving on from it.

New Asgard appears to be on fire in a Thor: Love and Thunder clip that was shown at the MTV Movie and TV Awards, with Thor calling out for Mjolnir. As the hammer begins to float towards Thor with cracks clearly visible, Thor exclaims, “You’re back!” before the hammer flies in the reverse way to meet Jane/Mighty Thor.

Mjolnir holds a special place in Thor’s heart because they fought together and it is a reminder of Asgard and his family. However, making Thor happy to have the hammer again dangerous takes numerous steps back in his character development because he chose to move on from it and the whole concept of “worthiness” attached to it.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, Jane Foster returns as the Mighty Thor, and it’s understandable that Thor will have another identity crisis when he sees Mjolnir in his hands again, which is why he’s enthusiastic to see Mjolnir in his hands again. Even so, making Mjolnir a central part of Thor’s story is a risky move for Marvel, given how far the character has come since his debut in 2011.
