Moon Knight’s finale and premiere featured two cameos from MCU characters that had to be cut. With the announcement that Oscar Isaac would be playing Marc Spector/Steven Grant by Marvel Studios in 2019, anticipation for Moon Knight was stoked to a new level. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, the series premiered on Disney+ in early 2022. After repeatedly rejecting major MCU connections, Marvel allowed Moon Knight to tell its own story. This attitude was carried over to the show’s cast, as no characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe appeared.

Even more so, Moon Knight’s lack of ties to the MCU made it stand out from the rest of Phase 4’s films and shows. If you look at the previous Disney+ shows, you’ll see that they all featured characters from previous films. Additional characters and villains were also employed by the filmmakers. With the Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision, Marvel Comics characters like Baron Zemo and Sharon Carter were reintroduced. After the first season of Moon Knight came to a close, the audience learned that there were no MCU characters making surprise appearances – which wasn’t always the plan.

Cutting Cameos And Dismissing Moon Knight Crossover

How Moon Knight's Premiere Sets Up Hulk's Cameo

Mohamed Diab, the show’s director, recently spoke with Variety about the show’s plot points and conclusion. Last but not least, Diab was asked about the lack of MCU crossovers and cameos in the series, to which she gave an enthusiastic response. According to director Ridley Scott, there were plans to include two MCU characters in Moon Knight, one at the beginning of the premiere and another at its end. They were, however, omitted from the final script because of time constraints.

We had the freedom to place it whenever. I want to tell you the very first scene, there was a crossover, and the very end scene, there was a crossover. But as the story developed and we kept changing the scripts, we felt like, “We don’t need that.” All of us. It was a collective decision. And then I kept thinking: It’s a rule. There has to be a scene at the end that connects us to the MCU. But I think they decided, “You know what, the surprise is that there isn’t, and what’s going to make this show unique is it doesn’t need anything else.” The best compliment we get on the show is when people tell us, “This doesn’t feel like a Marvel show. It feels like a standalone show that feels more dramatic, more dark, grounded.” I feel like we succeeded in bringing Marvel more to our corner. So, so proud and happy.

Moon Knight Crossover In Season 2?

Blade Moon Knight

Two MCU characters originally appeared in Moon Knight, but Mohamed Diab refuses to reveal their identities to the audience. During the show’s development, there were numerous rumors that could give viewers an idea of who was almost there. After Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk was spotted in the same location as Isaac during filming, speculation was rampant that he would appear in the series. In addition to Sharon Carter, Blade and Werewolf by Night have also been rumored to make cameos in the new season.

Many Moon Knight viewers would have welcomed some MCU cameos at the beginning and end of the film. They may have also felt out of place because the rest of the series was so solitary. Aside from a few cameos, Diab claimed that Marvel gave them the authority to omit certain well-known characters from Moon Knight because their absence was more surprising. So far, Moon Knight hasn’t crossed paths with any other MCU characters, but that could be about to change.
