Moon Knight During Endgame: Jeremy Slater Discusses What Went Down

A Moon Knight producer discusses Marc Spector’s activities during the five years following Thanos’ snap. More and more stories from the MCU are being added to Disney+. And so far, Moon Knight has done exceptionally well. Over the course of the six-part series, viewers learned about Marc Spector and Steven Grant, two alter egos trapped in a DID system. Oscar Isaac portrayed both Marc and Steven in the film and has since gone on to receive critical acclaim for his work.

Marc’s relentless mercenary world was the focus of Moon Knight’s focus on the relationship between Steven and Marc. A number of appearances by Moon Knight were made by the white-cloaked vigilante throughout the series to show how Marc came to adopt the superhero alter-ego, Moon Knight after he agreed to become Khonshu’s avatar. In spite of the show’s lack of direct ties to the MCU, an early episode of the series appeared to confirm that Marc survived the snap in Avengers: Infinity War by showing a post-snap passport, leading many to speculate about Moon Knight’s location during the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Moon Knight Was Busy During Endgame

Avengers Endgame

Moon Knight’s head writer and executive producer, Slater, has now discussed Marc’s activities during this time in an interview with The Direct. They discussed how Marc would have operated in his own personal mission against the criminal underworld much as Hawkeye did with the character of Ronin. According to Slater, he believes Moon Knight was “keeping very busy” and working “in the shadows” to deal with various threats at the time of the incident. Here’s the full quote from Slater:

But as to what was actually happening during that period, I mean, I think that they say in the show that Steven basically woke up about two years ago. That was the first time that they started living separate lives, and it was following the death of Marc’s mother. So that’s been the last two years, and we assume the three years before that was sort of Marc, just, there was probably, in the same way, that Hawkeye had his hands full as Ronin because the criminal underworld was running rampant during the Blip time, I assume Moon Knight was keeping very busy. But it was all being sort of done in the shadows, and he was sort of taking out a lot of threats that never surfaced or saw the light of day.

Moon Knight Survived During Endgame

Moon Knight Sets Up A Bigger War Than Endgame

According to Slater, from the beginning, it was decided that Marc would survive the snap because of the show’s focus on his story and “trying to find his place in the world,” and it would have been much more difficult to deal with if he hadn’t. Some fans are wondering how Marc and Steven’s stories will continue after the explosive finale of Moon Knight and Marvel’s use of the term “season finale” in a recent tweet from the company. For the time being, however, little is known about Marc and Steven’s future plans.

As one of the most important plotlines in the Marvel universe thus far, the big question for most new characters in the MCU is where they were during the catastrophic events of Thanos’ snap. That Slater has confirmed Marc was busy in the shadows, eliminating various threats, is an intriguing idea that definitely plays into what was teased about Marc’s life prior to the events of the series. If there is a second season of Moon Knight or even if Isaac gets his own MCU movie, flashbacks from those post-snap years could be interesting.
