With the release of Netflix series like Daredevil and The Punisher on Disney+ in March, the adult MCU has seen its greatest push yet. Disney+ will premiere Moon Knight, starring Oscar Issac, which despite being labeled PG-13, appears to be more mature than anything Marvel Studios has released thus far.

The MCU’s darkest, most violent, and most mature film to date is Moon Knight. The series appears to be abandoning all of the classic MCU stereotypes in favor of a dark and brooding adaptation of the Fist of Vengeance, diving headfirst into themes of mental illness and ancient mythology.

Some regions of the world’s Disney+ have content that differs dramatically from the rest of the world. While other countries use a rating system that includes 0+, 6+, 9+, 12+, 14+, 16+, and 18+, the UK uses a different system.

Aside from Daredevil, all of “The Defenders Saga’s” episodes that were previously rated 18 or older have been downgraded to 16 or older on Disney+. Marvel Studios’ most adult project yet has been given a PG-13 rating by Disney-owned streaming service Netflix as Moon Knight nears its release.

A more mature 16+ rating was given to the Oscar Isaac-starring Marvel series just ahead of its premiere on Disney+ U.K. At the beginning of March, Moon Knight was rated 12+ in the United Kingdom.

Updates to the show’s maturity rating in the United Kingdom put it on par with the likes of The Punisher, Jessica Jones, and the other Marvel Netflix shows – excluding Daredevil, which is still 18+.

Moon Knight Is Currently Rated TV-14 In The USA

Does Moon Knight Represent the MCU’s First Attempt at a Mature Audience Considering the character’s dark and twisted nature, Moon Knight is the MCU’s most mature film to date… Despite this, the show’s creators insist that it will be appropriate for all ages, given the evidence of some more mature themes.

In light of the U.K.’s recent switch to a TV-16 rating and our country’s continued use of the TV-14 rating, Moon Knight is most appropriate for those in their mid-teens and older. Even though The Batman has a PG-13 rating, The Batman has a 15 rating in the United Kingdom.

In recent months, Disney has shown significant interest in more mature content. “The Defenders Saga,” “Moon Knight,” and “Deadpool 3” all made headlines this month, with “Deadpool 3” seeing its most promising developments yet.

After all, the comic book world is rife with adult content, so older audiences should be thrilled that Marvel Studios is stepping up its focus on more adult material. When Moon Knight premieres on March 30, 2022, exclusively on Disney+, we’ll find out just how far the show pushes the boundaries of its new rating.
