The appearance of Moon Knight and Doctor Strange’s love interest Clea in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has given them greater widespread recognition. The wicked brother of Moon Knight is a lesser-known figure, but that’s about to change. For the first time in years, Shadow Knight returns to face the Sorcerer Supreme.

This family conflict dates back decades in Marvel’s publishing history, and it’s led to Randall taking on several guises in an attempt to undermine what Marc values most: the Marvel Universe. Randall, who has a history of attacking the women who are close to Marc Spector, is a great example of how even close family members may pose a serious threat.

The Shadow Knight turns out, is a reversal of Mortal Kombat’s Ermac.

Here’s Who Shadow Knight Is

Randall Spector made his Hulk Magazine debut in issue #17. When Doug Moench and Mike Zeck came up with Randall, they wanted him to be the younger brother of Marc Spector, but the tales about who was the elder one changed over time.

In Marc’s faultless success, Randall got envious and resented him. As mercenaries, Marc and Randall both served in the military until one of them assassinated a nurse Marc had come to care deeply for. In response, Marc threw a grenade and thought he had killed Randall, but it turned out he hadn’t.

Randall, now much more deranged, has lived to find that his brother has become Moon Knight and that there are two different versions of Khonshu. Marc Spector’s subsequent personas were ironically comparable to this in a way. The competition between these two versions reminded Randall a lot of his connection with Marc.

Therefore he decided he could handle Khonshu better than Marc. An impersonation of Randall with his face and memories tormented Moon Knight as the Hatchet-Man, however, his vicious career came to a stop when he inadvertently killed himself while carrying out his murderous spree.

Shadow Fight Is Not Human

The Sanctum Santorum, where Clea is meeting with her mother in Strange #4 by Jed MacKay and Marcelo Ferreira, is assaulted by the Cartel while they are inside. As soon as the Blasphemy Cartel blew a hole in the structure, they released the Shadow Knight, a beast they had summoned against Clea. Storming the Sanctum, this undead creature strikes Clea and her mother, slicing through their defenses and resembling a warped version of Moon Knight.

During the fight, it is revealed that the Shadow Knight is not a human at all, but rather an entity. He is, in fact, a collection of spirits crammed into the shape of a human being. Due to his lack of unique identity or awareness, Shadow Knight is significantly more powerful than the previously revived hero that Clea had faced. Because so many spirits may be harnessed in this way, Shadow Knight is a formidable force on its own. Ermac, one of Mortal Kombat’s most formidable combatants, has this same personality trait.

While Scorpion and Sub-Zero were utilized as prototypes for characters like Reptile and Rain, Ermac was basically a clone of the Scorpion persona. However, as the series’ ideas and visuals progressed, Ermac was given his own unique clothing and a more detailed narrative, explaining that he, like Shadow Knight, is made up of countless souls that perished in battle.

A darker clone, Shadow Knight, joins forces with Hunter’s Moon and Moon Knight. Unlike the Mortal Kombat vs. DC Comics video game, no such Marvel Comics vs. Mortal Kombat game is currently in development. However, if the two worlds ever collide, it would be awesome to watch Ermac from Mortal Kombat square off against Moon Knight’s evil reflection.
