As the film explores the concept of alternate realities, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is likely to feature numerous cameos. The return of Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier and the appearance of a Captain Marvel Variant who resembles Maria Rambeau have already been confirmed for the upcoming MCU sequel. Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter, another prominent member of the Illuminati, has also been teased.
When Peggy earned the Super Soldier Serum instead of Steve Rogers in the first episode of the animated series What If…? Captain Carter was introduced. During the finale, the character reappeared after The Watcher asked her to help save the Multiverse. Even though Captain Carter will appear in Multiverse of Madness, it’s not clear if she will be the same Variant that appeared in the Disney+ animated series.
New footage of Captain Carter has surfaced ahead of the highly anticipated release of the sequel.
An official promo for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been released, showcasing the core protagonists and Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter’s action in new footage. We get our first look at Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch and Benedict Wong in the 30-second trailer, who appear to be working together.
There’s also a glimpse of Captain Carter throwing his shield at Doctor Strange during his interrogation by the Illuminati. Captain Carter’s shield gets a closer look, and it looks a lot like its What If…? compatriot. We also get to see Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier tell Strange:
“we will see what kind of Doctor Strange you are.”
During her assault on the Illuminati ‘s base, Wanda Maximoff is given a gruesome glimpse in the trailer. Strange appears to be trying desperately to keep his magic under control at the end of the trailer, presumably during his battle with Sinister Strange.
The full promo is available here:
Even though Captain Carter hasn’t been fully featured in the Multiverse of Madness promotional campaign, the character’s shield and jetpack are enough to pique interest in her live-action debut.
A strong showing in What If…? is expected to carry over to Captain Carter’s big-screen debut. Captain Carter’s tenacity and grit are evident in the new promo, so it’s fair to presume that this Captain Carter will be just as tough as the animated series Captain Carter.
Strange’s surprised reaction could indicate that he has an idea about Peggy Carter from the MCU. Wanda Maximoff is expected to confront Captain Carter at some point, based on footage from earlier in the season.
Scarlet Witch and Wong, meanwhile, appear to be interacting with a team-up or a duel in these intriguing images. It appears that a truce has been reached, based on the opening sequence, which shows them walking from the portal together.
It’s a reminder of the Scarlet Witch’s wrath that Wanda attacked the Illuminati compound. Doctor Strange’s battle with Sinister Strange appears to hint that the upcoming Sorcerer Supreme will use every magic trick in the book if necessary to win.
