As per a new synopsis of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Sorcerer Supreme is all set to be the next main Avenger. Directed by Sam Raimi, the movie follows the multiversal adventures of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).

The movie will release in 2022 and is part of the MCU’s Phase 4 plans. We don’t have much information about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness right now. But a recent trailer has given fans some details about the next Doctor Strange outing.

The trailer showed Doctor Strange tormented by unforeseen consequences for unleashing the multiverse. As a result, he sought help from Wong and Wanda Maximoff, aka, the Scarlet Witch. Also joining these MCU veterans is a new hero.

She will make her MCU debut in the movie. It’s America Chavez, and she is known for her ability to open portals to any world in the multiverse. Marvel Studios also recently released the official Japanese synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Now, after Iron Man’s death and Captain America’s departure, there’s a power vacuum. Also, since Captain Marvel isn’t on earth right now, so many have been speculating about who would be the next main Avenger.

Eternals jokingly teased that Ikaris would lead the Avengers next. But the new Japanese synopsis for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has given fans an insight into Marvel’s decision.

Japanese Synopsis Reveals Doctor Strange’s New Position

It seems like Doctor Strange is the one who is expected to take on the responsibility of leading the next group of Avengers. The synopsis also mentions a variant of the Sorcerer Supreme. This might refer to the evil counterpart we saw in the trailer.

Here’s the translated synopsis:

“The door of the multiverse, full of mystery and madness, opens.”

“Now that Iron Man and Captain America have left after a fierce battle in Avengers: Endgame, former genius surgeon and the strongest magician of them all, Doctor Strange, is expected to play an active role as a central figure in the Avengers. However, using his magic to manipulate time and space at will with a forbidden spell that is considered the most dangerous has opened the door to a mysterious madness called “the Multiverse.” To restore a world where everything is changing, Strange seeks help from his ally Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, and the Avengers’ most powerful Scarlet Witch, Wanda. But a terrible threat looms over humanity and the entire universe that no longer can be done by their power alone. Even more surprising, the greatest threat in the universe looks exactly like Doctor Strange …”

Also, there’s this bit:

“Director Sam Raimi, who has expressed a unique world view, will captivate the whole world with overwhelming scale and unprecedented visual experience that will transcend time and space!”

Doctor Strange Variant, Villain Wanda Maximoff, And More To Come

Evil Doctor Strange in What If...?

As per the synopsis of the movie, it does seem like the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home will still lead to a multiversal disaster after all. And we assumed so. After all, Doctor Strange casting the reality-altering spell not once, but twice is bound to have a wide-reaching effect of some sort.

Moreover, with realities being changed in Loki and Wandavision, it might have further contributed to the calamity of events in the upcoming movie.

With the introduction of the evil Doctor Strange variant, many will surely also speculate if the variant we saw in the trailer is the same one from the Disney+ animated What If…? series.

But since Wanda is in the movie as well, so many are speculating that the variant might not be the primary antagonist of the movie. After all, the Scarlet Witch was seen studying the Darkhold.

Also, it needs to be mentioned that her fingers in the teaser trailer looked a lot like Agatha Harkness’ (Kathryn Hahn) fingers that became black because of siphoning magic from others.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a highly anticipated movie that will deal with the multiverse. Sam Raimi has himself acknowledged the deviated themes of the movie from garden-variety Marvel movies.

The Japanese synopsis only gives a little information about the movie. Even now, its plot is tightly under wraps, and as a result, the possibilities are truly endless.

MCU fans are putting out theories about the matter, but we won’t be certain of anything until the movie premieres. Just like the case was with Spider-Man: No Way Home.

However, fans are speculating that Doctor Strange will be leading the next lineup of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. However, for now, fans should wait for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness when it premieres on May 6, 2022.
