She-Hulk episode 8 saw Jennifer Walters team up with Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. Together they take out Leap-Frog and his goons. In the course of the episode, several other superheroes are referenced or teased. We have already talked about She-Hulk referencing Wolverine and Red-Hulk in the latter half of the episode. However, a very subtle reference may have been made by Daredevil and She-Hulk during their fight scenes. In fact, this may be a little far-fetched but Marvel has been name-dropping a ton of superheroes throughout the course of She-Hulk. So here is our theory of Morbius being referenced in episode 8.

Daredevil and She-Hulk reference echolocation

Initially, Jen ends up in a bout with Daredevil. This was when she was still unaware that it was Matt Murdock underneath the disguise. When she finally gets an upper hand on Matt and takes off his helmet, she sees that it’s Matt Murdock, the fancy lawyer from New York who she just lost a case against. This is when Jen asks him whether he is really blind or has been pretending. After all, seeing Daredevil’s brilliant action sequences and moves, who wouldn’t ask the same question? So Matt explains that he is genuinely blind. But he has extremely heightened senses that allow him to perceive the objects around him.

This is when Jen calls it echolocation. Matt Murdock or Daredevil’s power isn’t exactly echolocation. He himself says so in the episode to Jen. He has a sonar or radar sense. By this sonar sense he can use the electromagnetic waves originating from his brain, reflect them off of surfaces around him and understand what they are. As a matter of fact, echolocation is a word better suited for a different superhero altogether. And that is none other than Morbius the living vampire.

Echolocation is basically when one can control sounds or rather sound waves to understand the location of objects or people in their surrounding. This was done by reflecting the waves and understanding the time span before the wave returned. I’m sure my fellow science students already know what this is. Its something commonly used by superheroes whose powers are related to sonic waves or energy. In fact this technique is used by Daredevil, Banshee, Mara, Locus and lastly Morbius. Additionally echolocation in real life is a characteristic most commonly found in bats. Bats use the technique of sonar to navigate at night in the dark. So its no surprise that Morbius too has the powers of echolocation.

Was it a sneaky reference to Morbius the living vampire?

The reference to echolocation could definitely be related to Morbius. Infact, Matt looked like he knew something about a superhero who used echolocation but chose to not say anything more. After all, we have most recently seen his echolocation powers in the movie Morbius. He used this power of his to throw and catch a ball with his eyes closed. Only relying on his sonar abilities and echolocation. While this reference may not mean that Morbius will be seen anytime soon in the MCU. It may still be a reference to him. After all, the Vulture, Scorpion and even Venom all exist in the larger Multiverse. So Morbius could exist as well. Plus we would love to see a proper MCU remake of Morbius that would do the character some justice.
