When Spider-Man: No Way Home, starring Tom Holland and Doctor Strange, swings into theatres on December 17, 2021, it will finally put the overworked rumors about the film to rest. While fans are aware that the threequel will feature the Multiverse and villains from previous Spider-Man films, it is still unclear how many villains and Spider-Men will appear on the screen.
Alfred Molina, who played Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2, will return as the film’s enigmatic, third meta installment. While fans got a glimpse of Molina’s return in the film’s first trailer, new promotional material has revealed more of the tentacled villain.
With Spider-Man: No Way Home’s December release fast approaching, Empire has released a new image of Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock grabbing Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker with his trademark metal tentacles. Doc Ock appears to be holding Holland’s head in one tentacle while the other wraps around Holland’s neck. Holland’s Parker is depicted in the photograph “fighting iconic villains from past lives,” according to the image’s caption.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home isn’t just a sequel – it’s a massive, meta, multiverse outing in which Peter Parker finds himself fighting iconic villains from past lives. As its creators tell us, this is nothing less than ‘Spider-Man: Endgame’…”
This isn’t the first time Octavius, played by Alfred Molina, has snared a Spider; in Spider-Man 2: Homecoming, he had Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker in his tentacled grasp.
No Way Home’s return of Doctor Octopus raises more questions than it answers, even though fans have known for some time – thanks in part to Molina – that he would. To save the city in Spider-Man 2, Doc Ock drowns himself and his fusion experiment. It’s unclear why he’s still a bad guy and why Tom Holland’s Peter Parker finds himself in his world in the upcoming film.
Doc Ock isn’t alone this time, either. In this Spider-Man movie, in the vein of Marvel’s Endgame, he’ll have some help, but who and how many are yet to be revealed. If this report is to be believed, Green Goblin is said to be one baddie short of a rumored Sinister Six. This would leave the film with only the Ock and the four rogues from the trailer: Green Goblin, Sandman, Lizard, and Electro.
While the second trailer for No Way Home has yet to be released, this new image suggests that audiences can expect to see more of Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock in action in the weeks to come, as well as who else will be fighting alongside him and possibly.
