The Book of Boba Fett is close to finishing its run. Next up on the list is the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi show. It is the most anticipated Disney+ series right now. After all, we will see Ewan McGregor return as Obi-Wan Kenobi after years.
Joining him will be Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. As for a release date, we don’t know the exact date. But we do know that, as per the leak by a Disney executive, it possibly has a May 2022 release window.
But we don’t know much more than this. Fans are wondering to what extent Kenobi and Anakin will clash. After all, thanks to the concept art, we know that they are indeed going to fight.
Apart from this, Star Wars viewers can’t help but wonder which other familiar faces will show up in the series. We don’t know the answer to the latter, but we think that we know what the show will depict in regards to Kenobi and Vader.
Making Star Wars, an insider Star Wars blog shared the first hints of just what fans will get to see in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series in regards to Anakin/Darth Vader.
Making Star Wars’ Jason Ward said in a recent post that Christensen will play Darth Vader when he has the helmet on as well as if he is in the Bacta tank. He also said that Christensen would show up in flashbacks.
These flashback sequences will show a rebellious Anakin who is in his Jedi-Evil! stage from Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.
Here’s what he said:
“In Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi we will see Hayden play Darth Vader in the bacta tank or when the mask of Darth Vader is removed. We will also see Hayden Christensen play Darth Vader before the suit in flashbacks in sequences reminiscent of “from my point of view the Jedi are evil!” Obi-Wan has these flashes of his former Padawan turned Sith Lord.”
So basically Christensen will be playing more Vader than Anakin. Now, he has played Anakin before his fall to the dark side. So it looks like he will be there when the villain has to be shown without his helmet, whether in the present form or the flashbacks.
As for flashbacks, one has to wonder, what do these hold? Maybe they will be as simple as Obi-Wan thinking about past adventures with Anakin. Or maybe, he will be haunted by the Mustafar battle from Star Wars Episode III?
If these two don’t happen, then maybe fans will get to see the rumored hyped-up fight between Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, maybe, we won’t get to see them clashing lightsabers in the current timeline.
Maybe instead, it will be a slightly aged Kenobi looking back on the fight between the two at the end of Revenge of the Sith and the beginning of this show.
No matter what, it’s certainly interesting to note that this flashback style of storytelling structure will be utilized more (after getting used in The Book of Boba Fett) to show us more of Obi-Wan and Vader’s relationship.
However, whether we will actually get to see the two interacting in real-time on-screen is something that remains to be seen. Personally, we think that it will happen. After all, we know that a rematch has been hyped up a lot.
Right now, Obi-Wan Kenobi is rumored to debut during May 2022.
