When Star Wars The Rise of Skywalker hit theatres, it was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. Some thought that it was a great ending to the Skywalker Saga as well as the Sequel Trilogy.

But others thought that it was far off from the vision that George Lucas had and what he spent a large chunk of his life building. Now, obviously many people have different opinions on the movie.

But there was one specific plot point that was touched on during the climax of the movie that made everyone raise their eyebrows. This was the moment when Palpatine revealed that Rey and Ben Solo were a Force Dyad.

In The Rise of Skywalker, when the two characters were present on Exegol to defeat Palpatine, Rey raised Anakin’s lightsaber over her head, and it disappeared behind her. After that, the camera cut to Ben as he pulled the lightsaber out.

This signified that the duo could trade objects using the Force. Palpatine revealing this crucial information about the two lead characters of the Sequel Trilogy indeed answered a tonne of questions that were asked by fans during The Last Jedi.

Most importantly, it successfully addressed the question of how Kylo and Rey were able to see and even connect with the other through the Force when she was on Ach-To, and he was on the Star Destroyer.

Back then, a Dyad was explained as a phenomenon when two individuals were connected through the Force as one. Now, this seems like an awfully brief explanation for something so important in the movies.

Thankfully, now there’s a new book that focuses on the Siths, and that has revealed more about this mysterious and interesting connection.

Star Wars – Secrets of the Sith Explains Force Dyads In Greater Detail

Reddit user u/Obversa revealed that in the book known as “Star Wars – Secrets of the Sith,” there’s a page dedicated to explaining Force Dyads and this includes an image as well of what a Force bond looks like. In the book, this bond is described as:

“Fabled manifestation unseen for generations.”

Also, it restates Palpatine’s very words by saying that it’s “as strong as life itself.” Here’s the full quote:

“There are few secrets of the Force that I have yet to master. But our Order’s ancient prophecies speak of one fabled manifestation unseen for generations – a dyad. This pairing of two beings strong in the Force, linked together by an unbreakable bond, creates a power as strong as life itself.”

“Secrets of the Sith,” then delves a little deeper and explains the history of the Force Dyad. It mentions that it predates even the Rule of Two and was once upon a time official referred to as the “Doctrine of the Dyad.”

After that, the book mentions how such a connection can unlock multiple abilities that go beyond that of “even the most powerful Force wielder.” Here’s the full quote:

“For a millennium, the Sith have adhered to the Rule of Two. But this decree is said to merely be a pale imitation of its predecessor, the Doctrine of the Dyad. Legends claim that two beings sharing this profound connection gain access to a great number of abilities – skills beyond the grasp of even the most powerful Force wielder.”

The rest of the page is spent on explaining some of the powers that were indeed showcased in The Rise of Skywalker. This included transferring physical objects through space and time. The page on Force Dyads ends after mentioning that there are no limits to the powers of a Force Dyad.

Here’s the full quote from the book on this:

“Members of a dyad were believed to be capable of transferring their life force to heal others. Some could even pass physical objects through time and space in an instant. If two Sith were bonded so deeply as to transcend their physical beings, the power they could unlock together would know no limits.”

Could We See Force Dyads In Future Star Wars Media?

The Rise of Skywalker made many interested in the concept of a Force Dyad. And now that there is indeed an official definition and explanation of what it is and the kind of powers that two Dyads could hold, Star Wars could surely explore it in greater detail in a future project.

And fans already have a project in mind.

Now that The Knights of the Old Republic video game isn’t canon any longer, so the storyline that was centered around Darth Revan could be made into a tv series or movie.

In The Knights of the Old Republic video game, a Jedi called Bastila and Revan had a connection through the Force. The official definition of Force Dyad could be used for them.

Now that the video game is getting an official remake, so it will certainly be interesting to see whether or not the two characters were the last dyads to be seen in the galaxy.

So with this new book referencing and explaining Force Dyads, it’s possible that somewhere down the line Disney could have plans to bring it back in some sort of way. Right now, we don’t know whether that will be a movie, tv-show, video game, comic book, etc.
