The Mandalorian season 2 raised the bar higher for live-action Star Wars productions. The high production value combined with the surprise character cameos blew fans away.

Even though Mando and Grogu’s bond was still the heart of the show, but the anticipation of who would show up in next week’s episode kept many fans tuning in.

However, no one expected Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau to bring Luke Skywalker back and that from the Return of the Jedi -era for the season 2 finale. Suffice to say many still haven’t recovered from that surprise.

Now, The Book of Boba Fett is just a couple of months away from its December premiere. Also, there’s still no certainty over the release date of The Mandalorian season 3. However, fans who love Luke Skywalker don’t need to worry.

They can tune in to Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian on 25 August to see the making of the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian. Disney had previously released some pics as part of its August trailer.

Now, the house of mouse has shared a special sneak peek at what fans can expect to see in this Disney+ special.

The official Star Wars Twitter account promoted the Disney Gallery: Star Wars: The Mandalorian episode by sharing a behind-the-scenes video that’s narrated by Lucasfilm Executive Dave Filoni.

Here’s the video below:

In between clips of Mark Hamill and Max Lloyd-Jones (the stand-in actor portraying Luke Skywalker), Filoni commented on what seeing Luke meant to Star Wars fans. He said:

“…you realize they’re remembering what it meant to them. You see your crew just staring at Mark, and you realize they’re remembering what it meant to them. And you realize you’ve been a part of constructing something that’s giving that experience to people. This good feeling. Fundamentally, Star Wars should deliver a good feeling, an uplifting feeling…”

In one of the behind-the-scenes shots shown in the teaser, Luke can be seen with his back to the camera and holding a lightsaber in hand. This is similar to the shot of what Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze saw during the finale.

In another shot, we can see the crew filming the moment right before Luke reveals his face by removing the hood. The teaser video confirms that Hamill was the one who performed this moment.

What Can Fans Expect From The Disney Gallery Episode?

Fans can expect plenty of lightsaber action this August 25. After all, Luke easily defeated the Dark Troopers on his way to Grogu. It can’t be denied that this Luke Skywalker cameo was a gift to Star Wars fans. But pulling it off as a legitimate Hollywood marvel.

After all, in a business where every leak, rumor, and support gets spread online, the fact that this gigantic cameo in the season 2 finale was kept a secret was a surprise in itself.

Along with this, bringing young Luke Skywalker back was a digital and technological accomplishment that Lucasfilm couldn’t afford to mess up, or they would have been mocked all over the internet. We definitely think that these aspects will also be covered in the upcoming Disney Gallery episode.

Also, as per Dave Filoni’s short narration in the trailer, the episode will surely explore what Luke Skywalker means to fans. It’s possible that Mark Hamill will also speak on the matter.

It’s a well-known fact that after the release of Disney’s Sequel Trilogy, Mark Hamill wasn’t happy at how his character was treated. However, the actor was really happy at how his cameo in The Mandalorian was carried out.

In an interview, he had said that he really didn’t expect to be called back to play Luke again. But the call from Lucasfilm surprised him. Also, back then, he too had talked about the secrecy surrounding the cameo.

Overall, it’s almost given that fans will get to know about Hamill’s perspective on Luke Skywalker and just how important it was for him to leave fans with a “good feeling, an uplifting feeling” regarding Luke Skywalker.
