Thor: Love and Thunder will be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth film of the year, having followed Moon Knight, Doctor Strange 2, and Ms Marvel.  While Benedict Cumberbatch’s sequel and Disney+ origin stories don’t feature Chris Hemsworth or Natalie Portman, Thor 4 features the return of Chris Hemsworth and Jane Foster to Phase 4.

Anyone who’s seen the teasers and trailers for the film knows that Jane is making a comeback, but she’ll be playing a different role this time. The Mighty Thor has been transformed into Jane Foster in the upcoming film Love and Thunder, starring Natalie Portman.

This news comes as a shock after seeing Thor’s reaction to Jane using Mjolnir in the trailer. Nevertheless, in order to deal with Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher, Odin’s son will require additional assistance.

As for Marvel Studios, they’ve used the simple truth that Thor is no longer the solo hero to great effect in their marketing for the film so far, and they’ve just released a brand-new advertisement showcasing the dynamic duo’s abilities.

Promo Highlights the Two Thors from “Love and Thunder”

Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman are seen in a new Thor: Love and Thunder promo, shared by @sebbazz, jokingly debating their respective interpretations of Thor and their protagonists’ competencies.

After Hemsworth affirms that God of Thunder has come back for a whole new movie, Portman says she is “excited and honoured” to “take on the role.”

Hemsworth, of course, jumps in and explains “I’ll still be there playing Thor. The original. OG,” before Natalie Portman confirms her participation, stating that she will be taking part:

“The Mighty Thor. So Thor, but mightier.”

Love and Thunder actress, “I mean, same?” after Hemsworth goes through his character’s various abilities ranging from brandishing Stormbreaker to defending the galaxy.

Jane Foster As Lady Thor

If Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi has his way, Natalie Portman’s Jane will be resurrected and reimagined by Waititi just like Thor was in 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.

It’s worth noting that the choice to make Jane the Mighty Thor hasn’t been kept a closely guarded secret at all. San Diego Comic-Con confirmed this truth to the fan base with Portman on stage wielding Mjolnir by Waititi in 2019.

Marvel Studios hasn’t switched tactics, as evidenced by the film’s current promotional campaign. Portman’s Mighty Thor was the stinger of the first Love and Thunder trailer, and she’s been seen in action and alongside Thor in successive trailers and TV spots.

Another instance of Thor 4’s marketing technique, which is strange considering Marvel Studios’ predilection for confidentiality and uncovers, is this new promo starring Hemsworth and Portman. Is this twist in Thor’s MCU story the studio is leading with?

Even though Natalie Portman starred in both the original Thor and its sequel, Thor: The Dark World, she hasn’t appeared in any Marvel Cinematic Universe films since that year. The combination of her star power and the news of her return to form is sure to pique the interest of the viewing public.

What else besides Foster’s Cancer will take centre stage?

Jane Foster’s battle with cancer, as well as other events in the movie involving Gorr the God Butcher, are likely to be surprised those who aren’t acquainted with the comics.

According to some reports, Marvel Studios is keeping something else under wraps in Thor 4; and it appears that Marvel may have eliminated someone in order to keep the reveal a secret until the actual film itself.

Even if that rumour is true, it appears that Marvel Studios would like viewers to know that Thor will no longer be the only hero in the upcoming fourth instalment of the Thor film franchise.
