Shigeru Miyamoto, the legendary video game creator behind some of Nintendo’s most beloved franchises, recently confirmed that more big-screen adaptations of the company’s iconic properties are on the way. This announcement comes on the heels of the box office success of the animated film, The Super Mario Bros.

While the film wasn’t a critical darling, it proved to be a commercial success, earning $204.6 million domestically over the long Easter weekend. Additionally, it had the biggest second-weekend performance for any animated film ever, domestically grossing $87 million.

During an interview with Japanese news site, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, Miyamoto revealed that he will be making another film based on some of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. He cited the success of The Super Mario Bros. as the reason behind this decision.

What Nintendo Franchise Could Be Next?

Zelda

While it’s unclear which Nintendo franchise will be adapted next, there are several possibilities. A Zelda adventure following the iconic Link would likely be a popular choice. A Metroid movie could also give audiences a truly unique sci-fi animated adventure.

Another potential option is a Donkey Kong movie that explores the primate’s kingdom. On the other hand, a spin-off movie for Luigi’s Mansion would be an easy step for Nintendo to take, given the fan-favorite game’s popularity.

Of course, it’s hard to ignore the elephant in the room: the inevitable sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The post-credits tease from the first film hinted at the inclusion of characters like Princess Daisy, Wario, and Waluigi. Additionally, Yoshi, who appears in the film, will undoubtedly get plenty of action in a hypothetical continuation.

The reaction to such an announcement would undoubtedly be enormous.
