It’s been around a week since Lucasfilm fired Gina Carano from her role of Cara Dune in the hit Disney+ show “The Mandalorian.” The studio decided to terminate her contract after repeated warnings to be careful of what she posts, likes, and shares on social media. But the dam finally broke when she shared a post comparing the situation of Republicans in the US to that of Jews in Nazi Germany.
However, now that Carano is fired, the question is- Now what? Will Cara Dune be recast? We will answer those questions here.
Before the firing happened, many fans assumed that the character of Cara Dune will be appearing in the upcoming Rangers of the New Republic Disney+ show. In fact, before the firing, there was news of Cara Dune headlining her own show as well. However, that’s not the case anymore.
It looks like she won’t be appearing in anything else in the Star Wars franchise. Lucasfilm made it clear that they found her posts abhorrent and so they will not be further engaging with her in professional terms. But there’s a more pressing concern- how they will be explaining her absence in The Mandalorian? For now, that is a matter of waiting and watching.
The firing of Carano by Lucasfilm came swiftly but abruptly. It was stone-cold too since Carano was never informed of it beforehand. In fact, she got to know about it from social media, as all of us did. But if this wasn’t enough, Lucasfilm added insult to injury by ceasing further production on Cara Dune’s action figures. This cease in production came to be known when retailers alerted their customers that new orders for the Cara Dune action figure are not being taken.
Julie Duffy of Hasbro Global Communications said regarding the immediate stopping of production on Cara Dune figures, that:
“We’re thrilled to have the privilege of creating products featuring characters and stories from The Mandalorian for our fans. Hasbro has completed the development of all-season 1 and 2 product featuring Cara Dune, and there are no current plans to create more. We are actively working with our retail partners to address existing orders.”
It looks like if you haven’t already ordered, you won’t be getting your hands on a Cara Dune action figure. But if you really want it, then you can try secondary markets which will be selling the figure at way above any reasonable price rates. However, why even bother getting such an action figure? Instead, focus on the upcoming season of The Mandalorian.
