2022 is going to be a big year for Star Wars fans since Lucasfilm is bringing a bunch of shows set in the galaxy far far away to Disney+. Now, 2021 was also a big year with Star Wars: Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions. But that wasn’t quite enough. And fans were thirsting for more live-action content. Thankfully, the drought finally ends on December 24, 2021, with the release of The Book of Boba Fett.
Now, The Book of Boba Fett will air well into 2022. After that Obi-Wan Kenobi will take over, which will then be followed by Andor. We already have Andor’s official release window. Then 2022 will probably be rounded off with either season 3 of The Mandalorian or Ahsoka. Out of all these shows, fans are most excited about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
After all, Ewan McGregor is going to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi from the Prequel Trilogy. And he is going to be joined by Hayden Christensen, who is going to reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader. Fans expected to hear more about the show and its upcoming trailer during the Disney+ Day, but not much was offered to fans. However, there was a sizzle reel with the concept art of the show that helped fans picture how the show is possibly going to be.
In the sizzle reel that was dropped for Obi-Wan Kenobi, there was a concept art teasing a lightsaber duel between Vader and Kenobi in what seemed to be like a very familiar landscape. The video highlighted Vader’s iconic but ominous breathing. Then, McGregor went on to say that:
“The most beautiful thing of all is that it’s brought me back together with Hayden.”
Deborah Chow, who has directed episodes of The Mandalorian, and will be helming this series, commented on Christensen’s return by saying:
“We are bringing back Hayden Christensen to reprise the role of Darth Vader. We couldn’t tell the story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader.”
Also their fight is supposedly going to shatter Star Wars records too.
As Chow’s voiceover plays in the sizzle reel, the concept art of Vader watching a hologram in what seems to be his Mustafar castle is shown. Also, there’s another concept of art that shows the Sith Lord from a different perspective.
In Star Wars: A New Hope, Vader referenced the fact that he met his master again. Thus, implying that the duo fought before and Kenobi won. After the conclusion of the Prequel Trilogy, fans believed that the battle Vader was referencing was their fight on Mustafar from Revenge of the Sith. But that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. However, if Star Wars fans thought that their Revenge of the Sith fight was personal, then a rematch between the two now that Anakin is Vader would be more intense.
Along with the lightsaber fight, the concept art seems to imply that audiences will be spending time on Mustafar with Vader in his castle. This castle was first shown during 2016’s Rogue One movie. That film also showed Vader at his peak during the hallway-confrontation scene right before the movie’s conclusion. Also, worth noting is the fact that Vader should be at that same power level in the Kenobi show.
So fans will get to see Jedi Master Kenobi’s story after Order 66. But along with that, fans will likely get to enjoy that missing chapter of Vader’s story too.
