The Star wars drought has been ended, and it is ended for good, fans are busily dog-earing their calendars for the Star Wars release, but one of the most exciting projects is just knocking on the door. It is time to get your mojo on for the Obi-Wan Kenobi.
A release date is not still in the picture, but Ewan McGregor finally caved in front of all the anticipation and assured the completion of the shooting. Lucasfilm is very invested in the editing process for the event series along with ILM, and you know what that means, stunning visual effects.
Regardless of the anticipation, very little is so far revealed from Kenobi’s storyline, though the bombshell was dropped way before during the Investor’s day Disney event last winter. The president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy already confirmed that Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader through this series. So fans are excited, to witness the “Rematch of the Century”.
The anticipation already making fans go frenzy and now the legendary rematch just dialed up the hype level by hundreds-fold. A series dedicated to Kenobi’s legend during the dark times is already the best gift for the fans of the prequel trilogy.
Over the years Star wars universe is managed adequately by Lucasfilms, and judging by their usual strategies, it can be assumed that fans still have to wait for a bit to witness the Obi-Wan Kenobi Premiere, but somehow the first hint regarding Kenobi Vs Vader and a little bit of context behind this legendary confrontation have been revealed.
“Making Star Wars” had the first bite on the details regarding this long-awaited rematch within the upcoming Disney+ Star wars series. The report claims that Obi-Wan Kenobi will face Darth Vader in rocky terrain. The report also paints a little picture where the fight comprises of sequences like the Jedi master making the first move and his former padawan will be pushed 50 feet back into a wall. The Vader suit is the similar one from the Rogue One and his master is in the legendary Jedi tunic from the “Revenge of the sith”. The best guess for the location of this rematch will be the Jedha but any other Rocky “Star Wars” location can be plausible.
MSW went further and stated that these massive sequences took two weeks to shoot and had been shot in August 2021. The interesting thing from the report though is that Hayden Christensen was not present in the Vader suit during this fight sequence, instead, a stunt performer had done the scene. MSW though assured that Christensen is indeed playing the Vader and will be performing other sequences in the series.
In the case of Context, MSW also has intriguing things to say. They staged the sequence as Obi-Wan going for a rescue mission to help escape a prisoner for an important contextual reason. While the rescue, Obi-Wan defeated presumably Moses Ingram, who will be playing the Inquisitor. The success of Kenobi will be the driving force for Vader’s action and who is supposed to emerge from his throne and take a flight in his “TIE advanced” on Mustafar.
It is so wonderful and yet unbelievable to think that even after 16 years a duel between Kenobi and Vader awaits the universe faithful. Epic, legendary, any other synonym of Great is an understatement to explain the battle between Kenobi and Vader in the “Revenge of the sith”. It is still one of the battles of the century. The sequence set a bar for more heart-wrenching fast-paced fights, but sadly the bar is too high and no other lightsaber duel even came close to that bar. Not only they have returned with their blades, but they are also going to face each other again and it is good that I write with my hand, not with my jaw, because that is dropped only from the thought.
It is very obvious that the scene would be very hard to shoot and doing the action in the Vader suit is also very hard. Although a Sizzle reel, made exclusively for the Disney shareholders in December, shows Ewan McGregor stating that he will have a swing at Christensen but it could be assumed that this one is not the one he was talking about. Although, then more than one encounter can be expected and that assures that Obi-Wan Kenobi is going to be Action-packed and lightsaber fights will be the pinnacle of those action sequences.
The rumors, however, confirm that Christensen has a lot to do in this upcoming series. He will not just serve as some honorary character, instead of just the occasional occurrence in a bacta tank; there are chances of him fighting Obi-Wan even in dream sequences.
The reports also provide assumptions about showing the rampage of Vader during Operation: Knightfall and this will be presented through Concept art specified to Vader’s memories. Christensen can also be seen as the Skywalker in these visions, potentially sharing the screen with the Ashoka Tano, played by wonderful Rosario Dawson.
There are some scenes that have never been implied on the screen, but somehow they are tattooed within people’s minds, such as; Darth Vader sitting on an actual throne and it is not that strange as a mental image, as the character sees himself like that. Although it would be a great and believable scene, I mean He has a castle on Mustafar and a Sith Lord with an Iron fist sitting on his throne, does not require that much imagination. The involvement of the ship, the greatest of ships, TIE advanced would also be an adrenaline rush, and even a guest appearance by it is enough to make the series more awesome.
Fanfiction has already started to grow like a fresh weed. The place in the leaked footage looks like Jedha. Jedha can be a great place to draw the battle, as Obi-Wan Kenobi can be sent in that place for growing as Jedi along with interesting spiritual elements for the audience.
We saved the best for the last, Star Wars is famous for their ways of making a return for their beloved characters, and who would be a better fit to return than Princess Leia, of course, according to the timeline, she will be younger. Also, the context of the battle starts with a rescue mission of Kenobi’s. This can easily be Leia, as she is the Anakin’s child and Kenobi will make his best efforts to save her, so it can be assumed that “Bali Organa” will be making contact with his previous and trusted ally and it will be an ideal base for Kenobi to spring into jam-packed battle sequences.
Anyway, the fight is going to be legendary and to go toe-to-toe with one of the greatest Jedi masters, Darth Vader will make the most out of it and give a run for her money to the character played by Moses Ingram. So get ready for an adrenaline rush, because one of the biggest battles from our universe is soon to be scheduled in the Disney+.
