If there’s a Disney+ Star Wars series that fans are excited for apart from season 3 of The Mandalorian, then it’s the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. And there’s a reason why this show is the most anticipated.

After almost 17 years, Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as the titular Jedi Master. In the show, we will see the time he spent in exile after the events of Revenge of the Sith.

Fans have always wanted to see a new story revolving around Kenobi, and finally, their dreams are coming true. But Ewan McGregor isn’t the only one who will be coming to the show.

Hayden Christensen will be reprising his iconic role as Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader as well. There haven’t been a lot of plot leaks, but official concept art does show a lightsaber fight between the two heavyweights.

Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy described this fight as “the rematch of the century.” Also, it has been rumored that the Inquisitors will be on the show.

Maybe their defeat at Kenobi’s hands will encourage Vader to head to Tatooine and confront his master. Fans are eagerly waiting for the official release date announcement for the show. But the truth is that there aren’t any.

There are, of course, fan guesses about the release window for the series. And that’s said to be Spring 2022 in an unofficial capacity, of course.

Rumors have suggested for quite a long time that the show will be dropping in May, with many thinking that Star Wars Day will be the perfect time for its premiere. Evidence also shows that this might indeed be the case thanks to a leak by a Disney+ executive.

Disney+ Executive Leaks May 2022 Release Window

In a now-deleted tweet, Disney+ Enterprise/Global Program Manager Brandon SanGiovanni accidentally leaked that Kenobi will hit Disney+ in May 2022.

SanGiovanni later said that he was just referring to a new comic titled Star Wars: Obi-Wan. This comic is also releasing in May. Here’s what SanGiovanni said after deleting his tweet:

“This is a comic, to be clear. Mixed two tweets and will now shame myself eternally.”

This statement was followed by a “Surprise!” when the Star Wars comic was officially announced.

Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Will Probably Release In May 2022

This deleted tweet is the biggest hint that Obi-Wan Kenobi will debut in May 2022. The subsequent tweets look like a classic case of trying to cover up an accidental leak.

We need to say that SanGiovanni holda s significant position at Disney+. He oversees content, artwork, feature development, and metadata planning for the Originals on the streaming platform.

This is all to say that he would know the release window of the Obi-Wan Kenobi show. And he has likely had a hand in its production and development, too.

However, since he isn’t employed by Lucasfilm, so maybe SanGiovanni really was referring to the tie-in comic. However, it also needs to be considered that it’s a comic, and it isn’t dropping on Disney+, which is his area of work.

But SanGiovanni’s leak isn’t too big of a deal. After all, Star Wars fans have already figured out that Obi-Wan Kenobi’s best release window is May. Note that there’s the Del Rey book Brotherhood, with Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker, scheduled for publication on May 10.

This along with the Obi-Wan comic book miniseries that will release its first issue that month almost together, confirms that something big is happening with Obi-Wan that month. And the only big thing can be the release of the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series.

We don’t know when an official announcement will be made regarding the release date or whether it will come with a trailer. However, many are assuming that nothing will be announced before The Book of Boba Fett finishes its run.

So now the only thing to do is wait and watch while hoping that May 2022 indeed turns out to be the release window for the Disney+ Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
