Star Wars movies are now one of the rarest things on the planet. This is because Lucasfilm keeps canceling the films in development. One such movie Star Wars fans thought had bitten the dust was Patty Jenkins‘ Rogue Squadron. First announced during Disney’s Investor Day presentation in 2020, the movie was greeted with enthusiasm from fans. But after that updates regarding the movie were sparse, and soon rumors swirled about it being shelved. However, Patty Jenkins has now revealed that the movie is still in active development.
Patty Jenkins Gives Update On Rogue Squadron
The Wonder Woman director has recently been embroiled in controversy after a report came out about her walking away from Wonder Woman 3. This was due to creative differences with the DC and WB bosses. But today, Jenkins posted an explanation on Twitter regarding her professional split with the studio where she made two Wonder Woman movies. However, what’s also interesting is that hidden in that post is an update about Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
Jenkins said that Rogue Squadron was still in development. But she doesn’t know if it will ultimately see the light of day or not. Here’s her statement regarding the matter:
“I originally left Rogue Squadron after a long and productive development process when it became clear it couldn’t happen soon enough and I did not want to delay Wonder Woman 3 any further. When I did, Lucasfilm asked me to consider coming back to Rogue Squadron after WW3, which I was honored to do, so I agreed. They made a new deal with me. In fact, I am still on it and that project has been in active development ever since. I don’t know if it will happen or not. We never do until the development process is complete, but I look forward to its potential ahead.”
Jenkins’ Star Wars Project Was Just Delayed
If Patty herself hadn’t posted this update about Rogue Squadron, no one would have known that the project was still in development. Most fans believed that the film was scrapped because Lucasfilm didn’t like her version of the story. It is only now we can connect the dots and know that the the reason why it was taken out of Disney’s release schedule was because Jenkins was busy with Wonder Woman 3 first.
As such, this is again a stark reminder to fans that every rumor that comes from even trusted scoopers should always be taken with a pinch of salt. After all, chances are that those grifters have no idea what’s actually going on and are just making things up. Or worst, they are making conclusions after hearing things from the grapevine.
As for whether Patty Jenkins’ film will be released or not, remains to be seen.
Stay tuned for more updates on Star Wars: Rogue Squadron.
