The surprise announcement of the new Star Wars movie came as a blessing in disguise for enthusiasts worldwide. It was revealed on Disney Investors Day 2020 that a new film titled ‘Rogue Squadron’ will be released in 2023. This new movie seems to be painted in a fresh new look with the director Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman 1984 Fam) sailing the boat. This declaration of the new movie was one among many that came out of Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy. It was also made known that some other big projects like Mandalorian spinoff “Rangers of the New Republic” with other TV productions like Andor, Lando, The Acolyte, The Bad Batch, and Obi-Wan.

Let’s stick to the movie for now and discuss what was revealed from Jenkins’s end. Steven Weintraub first discussed with her during Wonder Woman 1984’s press day. So when the question was raised about the writer for Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Jenkins rolled over the matter and made a tease about only revealing the writer when the writer himself wants to come out and even with a clear revelation. For now, it doesn’t look like it’s near.

This Was Jenkins Response To Questions About Writing:-

“We’re very far into the — we’re finishing the treatment basically, which is pretty big. So it ends up being like where you’re fairly close to a well-along screenplay by the time I’m done with the treatment in my process. So yeah, we’ve been working on it for awhile. It’s going great. I’m super excited about it. I’m super excited about the story.”

Rogue Squadron stands out as a movie or any other Star Wars project ever. First of all, it’ll be the new endeavor from Lucasfilm after their 2019 Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Next, it was also hinted that this movie might take an alternate direction altogether. Rogue Squadron is speculated to drift away from Skywalker’s storyline of nine films, which has been the notion of Star Wars for 40 years now. As revealed in a tweet by Jenkins, this movie will have roots in the personal experience and would focus on a new squad of Star Wars heroes with a story of the galaxy’s greatest space fighters.

Jenkins then talked about her busy schedule and multiple projects she’s concurrently working on. On the one hand, she still has to focus on Wonder Woman 1984 with ongoing promotions, and then there is Rogue Squadron, and shortly, another movie with Gal Gadot on Queen Cleopatra is under production. It’ll be interesting to see how Jenkins will handle this massive load of work. But one thing is for sure that Patty Jenkins has a mountain of works to climb in front of her.

“You can never do it in one year. You could never do a good ‘Star Wars’ movie in one year or a good ‘Cleopatra’ in one year. I think each of those movies takes two years probably. But I do think, as I even learned on the two ‘Wonder Woman’s, I already had sold a limited TV series [‘I Am the Night’] that I was in love with when they decided to move the ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ release date up.

So suddenly it was happening on top of each other. And I was actually able to write a huge treatment and have a bunch of creative meetings and go off and do my show while pre-production was happening for ‘Wonder Woman 1984.’ So there is a lot of ways. Certainly, until I’m on set shooting ‘Star Wars,’ I could be developing all sorts of other things and pushing them forward. It’s actually possible. So, I think that’s apparently how people do multiple things at one time, which I’m usually pretty singularly focused, but I’m getting better at this all the time.”

One thing is for sure that Jenkins has a lot of work on her hand, and this tight schedule means that in upcoming years there will be back-to-back releases from her. So we fans will have to wait till 2023 to get a glimpse of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, and until then, there will be many teases, leaks, news, and information to keep us excited.

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is a projection of 2023, and till then, we’ll keep you posted about how this movie goes, any news, and how it turns out. Also, know more about Disney Investor Day 2020 and Pixar, Marvel, etc.
