Pedro Pascal, renowned for his portrayal of Din Djarin in “The Mandalorian,” recently shed light on the extent of his on-set involvement in the hit Star Wars series. Despite being credited as the top-billed actor, Pascal’s physical presence in the iconic Mandalorian armor is more limited than initially assumed, with other actors, such as Brendan Wayne, primarily donning the suit during filming.

During The Hollywood Reporter’s Drama Actor Emmy Roundtable, Pedro Pascal engaged in a discussion about the depth of his role in “The Mandalorian” and the amount of time he spends inside the character’s suit. Pascal affirmed that a significant portion of his work entails voiceover, stating, “Correct. For a lot of it, yeah.”

Kieran Culkin, known for his role in “Succession,” chimed in, assuming that Pascal not only provided the voice but also performed the physical acting. In response, Pascal humorously acknowledged that the actors inside the suit for most of the filming are “better” than he is at it.

Pascal further revealed that, initially, he attempted to be in the suit as frequently as possible. However, he discovered that his body couldn’t handle the demands of extended periods in the armor. He stated, “There was an extended amount of experimentation, being in the suit for a lot of it, and frankly, my body wasn’t up for the task as far as, like, the four months of it. But I was in it. I was in it a significant amount, an elastic amount.”

The actor emphasized that they have since resolved the situation, allowing him to reduce physical stress and pursue additional acting roles. Pascal expressed satisfaction, saying, “But now we’ve figured it out, which is super cool, and amazingly, it gave me the opportunity to be able to go and do something else.”

Letting Go Of Control: Pascal’s Perspective

Culkin inquired whether the actors inside the suit ever make decisions or perform actions that Pascal disagrees with. Pascal, however, expressed his contentment with their contributions. He explained that when relinquishing the physical aspects of the role, he must also let go of certain creative control, stating, “No, I do. I think that there are things that you have to let go of in terms of what can be an OCD level of attention to detail because, you know…”

Jeff Bridges, known for his role in “The Old Man,” interjected, suggesting that actors are part of a collage. Pascal agreed, affirming that actors must surrender themselves completely, adding, “Yeah, exactly. But even so much as wanting your component of that to fit perfectly into the collage, you really have to give it all up.”

Implications Of Pascal’s Physical Absence In “The Mandalorian”

In most cases, Pedro Pascal’s physical presence is not required during the production of “The Mandalorian.” Since the character wears a helmet for 99% of the time, Pascal’s face is only revealed in extremely significant or emotional moments throughout the series.

However, Pascal’s absence may have impacted Season 3. According to a recent rumor, the finale of Season 3 was intended to feature Din Djarin’s unmasked face, portrayed by Pascal himself. However, due to his commitments to filming HBO’s “The Last of Us,” Pascal couldn’t make it to set, resulting in the omission of this scene and altering the outcome of the final episode.
