“Titans” and “Doom Patrol” are two of DC’s most celebrated shows. But it looks like their time is up since HBO Max has brought down the axe on the two shows. This leaves the DC Tv show scenery almost bare since there aren’t many DC superhero shows that are still airing. So could this be a hint of James Gunn’s intended reboot?

Variety reports that HBO Max has canceled “Doom Patrol” and “Titans.” The two DC superhero shows ran for  4 seasons each. Also, reportedly both the series knew that this could be their last outing. Additionally, the last seasons of both the show will be divided into two halves, each containing six-episodes. So that’s a total of 12 episodes for both the superhero shows.

Greg Walker, the Titans showrunner shared a message with fans where he thanked the crew and fans for their support. He said:

“I’m immensely proud of our gifted cast, crew, and writing staff and their efforts in bringing to life all forty nine episodes over the last five plus years. I couldn’t have asked for better partners in Berlanti Productions, Warner Bros. Television, and HBO Max, and from the beginning, Geoff Johns and Akiva Goldsman. I’m incredibly grateful for their unyielding trust throughout this process. Lastly, I have to thank our incredible fans for their continued support, engagement, and the passionate community they’ve built around our show. We have six episodes left to unleash upon the world that we hope will give our beloved characters the creative closure we all know they deserve.”

Is The Cancelation An Indication Of The Upcoming James Gunn Reboot?

As soon as the cancelation rumors made the rounds of the internet, many people claimed that it was because James Gunn is planning on starting afresh with a new DC slate. For long, DC fans have believed that the new CEOs of DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran, are planning a full reboot.

Henry Cavill’s departure, Dwayne Johnson’s farewell, as well as Gal Gadot’s rumored departure from the DC universe have been taken as signs by the fandom of this reboot. However, as per The Hollywood Reporter, the cancelation decision was taken before the two CEO’s took on the job.

James Gunn also took to Twitter to clarify the same point. In response to a fan blaming the cancelation on the DC Studios CEOs, he said that the decision to end the two shows precedes them. Check out the tweet below:

Various insiders previously stated that the showrunners of “Doom Patrol” and “Titans” were informed that their respective fourth seasons could be the last one. So they formulated the ending as per the instructions given. However, this doesn’t dim the fact that now the DC superhero TV series catalogue is barely alive.

Shows like “Superman and Lois” as well as the upcoming “Gotham Knights” show along with the “Harley Quinn” animated show are the three that are holding down the DC superhero fort. Whether they will still be there when “Peacemaker” season 2 premieres, is something to be kept an eye on.

Stay tuned for more updates.
