In season 8 of Game of Thrones, Cersei Lannister orders the beheading of Daenerys Targaryen’s beloved assistant/advisor, Missandei. The death of Missandei of Naath, coupled with the recent deaths of her dragons (or her children) Viseryon and Rhaegal, disrupts Dany’s mind. She loses her mind during the battle in King’s Landing and burns down the entire city. Rhaenyra has also been through similar trauma due to Lucerys’ death. Could Rhaenyra Targaryen do something impulsive like Daenerys while being clouded with emotions?
In the House of the Dragon season one finale, we see Lucerys Velaryon’s death. Daemon Targaryen informs his wife, Queen Rhaenyra, about her son’s death and her face shows immense sadness mixed with pure rage, as the season ends. She has been described in George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood as much more vicious than the one depicted in House of the Dragon. We may see this reflected in season 2.
Rhaenyra & Daenerys Are Strikingly Similar
They Long For The Iron Throne
Rhaenyra and Daenerys both have a similar mindset, in different timelines, due to their longing for the Iron Throne. Rhaenyra Targaryen was the named heir until her father’s death, and she is trying to take back his seat. Daenerys also wanted to take back her father’s seat and things were far more difficult for her.
They Are Mothers Who Lost Their Children
They both are mothers (Daenerys also considered herself truly as the mother of dragons), who lost their ‘children’. Especially if you include Rhaenyra’s ghastly miscarriage, they both lost multiple children. This is important as Lucerys’ death in House of the Dragon could ignite Rhaenyra pulling off a Daenerys Targaryen.
Rhaenyrya & Daenerys Have Bold And Rebellious Personalities
Both queens are recognized to have dragon blood and, as predicted, have fiery dispositions. Daenerys is seen maturing from a shy young woman to someone who can easily conquer an entire kingdom. Rhaenyra, likewise, has the mind of a conqueror. She has a strong conviction in herself and refuses to deviate from her path until she achieves her objective.
Does Rhaenyra Go Mad In Fire & Blood?
There is a very good chance that Rhaenyra might go crazy, as, in Fire & Blood, she is described to become war-hungry and seeking vengeance. She does not burn down any city on Syrax, but she does start plotting the civil war with Daemon. In House of the Dragon season 2, this will look similar to Danerys plotting the war at Dragonstone later on in the Game of Thrones series.
Rhaenyra, unlike Daenerys however, becomes slightly disturbed by Luke’s death also. His death not only weakens the Driftmark succession but also makes a hole in her heritage.
