Fans of the popular animated TV show Rick and Morty have something to look forward to later this year. HBO Max announced that the show is getting an anime adaptation, set to air on both HBO Max and Adult Swim. While details are sparse at this time, an official tweet from HBO Max featured an image of the titular characters with their new designs for the spinoff. Fans have recognized the designs as being identical to those used in the Rick and Morty Vs. Genocider anime short released in 2020, which may mean the return of Tower of God director Takashi Sano, production company Sola Entertainment, and animation house Telecomm Animation Film.

Hope For Rick and Morty Fans After Controversy

The anime spinoff is especially exciting news for fans who were concerned about the future of the series. Co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland was recently embroiled in controversy, and Adult Swim cut ties with him, announcing that they would be selecting new voice actors for both Rick and Morty. This left fans wondering if the show was coming to an end, but the anime adaptation has given them hope that the series will continue.

A New Stepping Stone For The Series

The anime adaptation is an exciting new step for Rick and Morty, which has already seen several adaptations, including a spinoff series and a comic book adaptation. With its international popularity, the anime spinoff is the perfect opportunity for the creators to expand the series even further. It remains to be seen whether the anime will recreate scenes from the original, follow the comics, or create a brand-new story for the characters.

A Door To More Collaborations

With the anime adaptation, the doors have opened for creators from both America and Japan to share ideas and create even better animated TV shows. By using the classic sitcom style made popular by other animated series like The Simpsons and making it their own with a sci-fi twist, Rick and Morty was able to bring American adult animation to new heights. Fans can currently stream the original Rick and Morty animated series on HBO Max while waiting for the anime spinoff to air later this year.
