How Did Sauron Lose His Physical Form

The Dark lord was preassumed dead during the War of the Alliance when the great Isildur severed the one ring which also happens to be the source of Sauron’s power from his finger with a shattered sword.

He had assembled a legion in Mordor’s castle of Barad-dûr that might endanger Middle-earth, and only a combined effort by men and elves could destroy him. Even though he came to the fight belated in style, Sauron nevertheless managed to wipe out a large portion of the Alliance forces, including the Elven ruler Gil-Galad, and Elendil.

However, it seemed that the evil lord had been finally defeated when Elendil’s descendant Isildur took up his father’s shattered blade and severed the Ring of Power from Sauron’s grasp. Separated from his Loyal Ring, Sauron, the nemesis of the free citizens of Middle-earth, was vanquished.

His armor crumpled to the floor with his shattered body. The Ring was subsequently given to Isildur, who tragically did not eradicate it, but what became of Sauron?

Towards the conclusion of the Second Age, when Sauron’s troops were vanquished and his corpse was destroyed, many people believed they had seen his fate. However, Sauron’s soul remained. His spirit, now devoid of his body, fled the battleground for Mordor, where it pondered the futility of yet another offensive and the abandonment of Ring.

Although Sauron’s reappearance was delayed by his lack of a material body, he eventually regained his former stature and clout. In the Third Age, the time interval covered by The Hobbit as well as The Lord of the Rings, he made another visit to Middle-earth to pose a danger. Sauron, now devoid of his physical form, took the form of a huge burning eye, which he displayed above two spears on the peak of his forbidding fortress, Barad-dûr.

From its high perch, the Eye of Sauron not only constituted a representation of the evil lord’s supremacy but also a grave menace to anybody who challenged the troops of Mordor. He held a watchful enormous eye out for any indications of resistance to his growing power as he gathered a legion to do his calling and poisoned commanders across the realm.

It’s often overlooked, but one of Sauron’s most impressive traits was his uncanny talent to predict the future. Recognizing the Fellowship that had gathered to eliminate the Ring of Power and thwart his intentions, he was able to rally his soldiers to fight them in an attempt to seize the Ring for himself.

Before Frodo along with his faithful companion Samwise obliterated the Ring in the flames of Mount Doom at the conclusion of The Return of the King, Sauron lingered in the shape of a huge eye. Sauron’s danger was eliminated when the Ring was destroyed. The Eye of Sauron vanished into mist as the walls of Barad-dûr collapsed, and then an earthquake obliterated the fortress of the evil king.
