After the debut of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power broke Amazon Prime Video’s streaming benchmarks, creator JD Payne said production on the next season would follow in earnest.

The fantasy adventure miniseries inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s works have reportedly swept the audience by storm, yet just two of the eight episodes have been aired so far. Fifty hours of Middle-earth footage will be available to fans throughout the course of the show’s five seasons.

Fans Have Review-Bombed Rings of Power

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has received great acclaim from experts, however, haters have review bombed the miniseries, forcing the streaming giant to suspend opinions for an unspecified amount of time.

That hasn’t prevented unfavorable viewers from trashing the program on review sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, where it now has a 37% favorability rating as of this posting. Review bombing may be frustrating for people who are enjoying a product. Still, early reactions to Rings of Power have been overwhelmingly favorable, and the series’s continuation has just been revealed.

J.D. Payne recently gave an insight on the status of season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power in a discussion with RadioTimes.com. The creator has confirmed that the screenplay for season 2 has been written and production will shortly begin. Here’s what he had to say on the matter.

“We’ve written our drafts [for season 2]. We are a couple of weeks away from starting production.”

The show’s creators have hinted that they’ve actually envisioned the series’ ending scene and how they intend the series to progress through Middle-earth, despite the fact that they have four seasons mapped out. The creators have likened the show to a road trip with scheduled sites but freedom to wander, so viewers should expect some spontaneity and twists along the way.

The gorgeous scenery and people of Tolkien’s universe have returned to television in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, however with the review bombs, it is difficult to know what fans really think about the program.

Many Believe The Series To Be Another Cash Grab Strategy

Many fans are still skeptical that The Rings of Power will pay a fair homage to Tolkien’s stories and that the storyline is just an attempt to cash in on the franchise’s popularity, but the show’s creators have guaranteed them that the tv series is well-planned and that some events from Season 1 won’t be impacting the story till Season 5.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has just two episodes under its belt, but it’s already showing promise by revealing the first stirrings of darkness at a period of relative calm and presenting the beautiful world of Middle-earth, complete with both familiar and unfamiliar faces.
