Marvel Studios fans are thrilled about the year’s biggest concluding release with Spider-Man: No Way Home. With December just around the corner, the film only has a little less than a month before it hits theatres. No Way Home is Marvel’s Phase 4’s upcoming release on the schedule. And unsurprisingly, the promotional tour and press rounds are about to circle, exciting the disclaimer for the remaining couple of weeks.
It has not been long since the second full trailer for No Way Home broke the internet with its viewing records. The trailer introduced the fans to five of the movie’s villains. The footage gave the specific spotlight to Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin. These appearances are set to tear the Multiverse open. At the same time, the MCU relies on Tom Holland’s Peter Parker and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange to do everything in their power and save reality.
No Way Home’s rumours are incomplete without mentioning a cameo appearance from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The two are expected to reprise their roles as Spider-Man and assist Holland’s MCU hero. How exactly will the two be seen gracing the fans with their presence? That is still a secret Marvel has been keeping. Although, a recent scoop might have some light to shed on the topic. And an unexpected one at that.
WARNING: This article may include minor spoilers for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
On his YouTube channel, Scooper Daniel Richtman recently disclosed some minor details about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s roles as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Richtman reveals that the two of them may have about half an hour of screen time in the threequel.
When the two Peters appear in the MCU’s current timeline, they will first rack their brains to help Holland’s hero try and find a solution to the Multiverse problem. This scenario will reportedly play out after the movie’s first act. Interestingly enough, the news says that Garfield and Maguire’s characters will first work their minds hard as “scientists” in several scenes. And eventually, they join in the action as superheroes.
The three of them will puzzle over the Multiverse to understand what is causing it to collapse. As well as the interconnection between different universes. This will be a defining moment as the three will have a big crossover. This is before they ultimately suit up in their Spidey suits. These events will occur ahead of the three web-slingers teaming up to fight the movie’s five villains in the epic final battle.
Fans are impatiently looking forward to seeing three live-action Spider-Men slinging webs, swinging around and fighting alongside one another. An MCU Spider-verse fleshed out on the big screen with a visual epic will be like a dream come true. And now, this rumour has given us the grounds to believe that Garfield and Maguire will have the opportunity to show that their Peter Parkers have more to their person than just being superheroes.
We already have Doctor Strange’s quote from the trailer of No Way Home memorised. The sorcerer says, “The Multiverse is a concept about which we know frighteningly little”. Already being two of the most brilliant minds in the MCU, Peter Parker and Doctor Strange are struggling as they try to figure out what went wrong in their world. And obviously, getting help from two other near-geniuses will do nothing but speed things up for them.
Garfield and Maguire reportedly have at least half an hour worth of screen time. That amount is enough to make their roles legendary and glorified. The two posing as scientists only portray their detailed knowledge and composure amidst the Multiversal madness. The three Spider-Men will indeed be in an unexpected situation as this is not their area of expertise. However, their collective brainpower will be a crucial asset in working out how to fix the Multiverse. That is, before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness wrecks it one more time.
The long and extensive slate of past Spider-Man villains has filled the fandom with curiosity, sure. But even with them in play, it is Maguire and Garfield’s comebacks that they are looking forward to the most, especially now that No Way Home’s stock is seeing its gradual rise.
If Ricthman’s rumour holds any weight, about 20% of this movie’s runtime will feature this long-awaited superhero trio. The three will acquaint themselves with one another and try to figure out how to combine their collective intelligence and power to serve a bigger purpose. The fact that the movie has involvement from Garfield and Maguire in itself is a guarantee for success. But with this amount of screen time, they could make the film more fascinating.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is scheduled for its worldwide theatrical release on December 17, 2021.
