Amidst the ongoing Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) Strike, an alarming update has surfaced regarding the production of Deadpool 3: Ryan Reynolds, known for his comedic talent and improvisation skills, is not permitted to improvise in the film.

As a credited writer for the movie, Reynolds is bound by WGA guidelines and unable to deviate from the script during the strike. However, there is a small loophole as Reynolds is also a producer, allowing him to make casual minor adjustments in dialogue or narration. Despite this, the WGA has urged producers to refrain from engaging in writer-like practices to support the strike.

Interestingly, Reynolds’ involvement with the character of Deadpool originated during the 2007 Writer’s Strike when he essentially wrote his own lines for the film X-Men Origins: Wolverine due to script limitations.

Potential Issues Without Improvisation

Deadpool 3

The news of Ryan Reynolds being unable to improvise in Deadpool 3 raises concerns, considering his talent for improvisation. Marvel Studios must be aware that filming the movie entirely during the Writer’s Strike may not be feasible.

It is possible that the studio is prioritizing filming scenes that are less likely to require significant adjustments, such as action sequences and smaller connecting elements. However, the need for reshoots in every MCU project implies that Deadpool 3 may require more extensive additional filming.

There is also a chance that the production of the third installment could be put on hold until the conclusion of the Writer’s Strike, joining other affected projects like Blade and Thunderbolts.

Ultimately, it is hoped that the Writer’s Guild of America achieves their objectives swiftly, allowing the industry to resume normal operations.
