When asked about the status of Deadpool 3, Ryan Reynolds gives a vague answer. Many Marvel fans were overjoyed by Disney’s historic acquisition of Fox’s film and television assets, as they realized that the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all of their tie-in characters could now be included in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As of yet, Marvel Studios hasn’t laid out a plan for the mutants in the franchise, but Wade Wilson, better known as Deadpool, is expected to make his debut soon.
Kevin Feige is already in charge of rebooting the Fantastic Four, with Jon Watts set to direct the new film. They will have to go through the same thing as Fox’s X-Men franchise is a little too complicated to just be absorbed into the MCU. However, Deadpool’s situation is a little different.
Restarting the sub-franchise is simply not an option, given the fandom’s fervor. To keep the character’s ongoing continuity, Marvel Studios has already approved Deadpool 3 as an R-rated film, which will be the first installment in the franchise. There have been no further updates since this news broke, which has further piqued the interest of fans.
Red Notice premiered on the red carpet, and Variety asked Reynolds about the threequel when they caught up with the actor. When he was asked a question, he didn’t respond with his usual sarcastic humor. In the meantime, he says he can’t discuss the issue, but he hopes to do so “hopefully soon.” Here’s his full remark:
“Plugging away. I can’t really comment right now. Hopefully soon.”
Ryan Reynold’s announced he’s taking a short break from acting after wrapping up work on Apple TV+’s Christmas movie Spirited. Free Guy and Red Notice have both been released this year, and the actor has also been busy with work for his business ventures. His kids are growing up so quickly that he wants to spend more time with them.
While it’s not clear if this short break will have an impact on the development of Deadpool 3, given Marvel Studios’ extensive backlog, it’s likely to have little effect. When he returns from his summer break, it’s likely that he’ll focus on the Marvel film, which is currently unconfirmed by Reynolds.
It’s safe to assume that Deadpool 3 will be getting more information soon, as the film is currently in development. This character’s introduction into the MCU is relatively straightforward, thanks to the MCU’s multiverse.
Other than the release date and plot, we’re curious if the rest of the previous two films’ cast members will return to join Reynolds in the third installment. She recently started her desire to reprise her role as Domino. Marvel Studios could easily get her on board for the next film if they wanted to.
