Scarlet Witch’s Redemption Hinted At in Doctor Strange 2 Details

How will Scarlet Witch get her redemption in the future? Wanda Maximoff’s character is fundamentally altered by Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but a seemingly insignificant nuance suggests that the former Avenger may yet find redemption. Immediately following WandaVision, Wanda utilizes the Darkhold and encompasses the chaos magic of the ancient Scarlet Witch, a fabled and destructive magic wielder, in an attempt to locate the whereabouts of her kids. She is only thwarted by Doctor Strange and America Chavez. However, a key distinction between Wanda and her roguish persona may indicate that Wanda may once again get to be a heroic Avenger in the coming years.

After being first introduced as an enhanced HYDRA subject in Avengers: Age of Ultron, Wanda is later revealed to be the mythical Scarlet Witch by Agatha Harkness. Because of HYDRA’s tests, Wanda’s capacity to use chaos magic has been amplified. Vision’s death in Avengers: Infinity War and Wanda’s reappearance in Avengers: Endgame allow Wanda to subjugate the town of Westview, creating the ideal life for herself and her two children, Tommy and Billy, with the help of their father’s magical powers. Her mind is warped by the evil book, the Darkhold after she has come to grips with her grief.

Is There Hope for Scarlet Witch’s Redemption?

There is hope for Wanda Maximoff, according to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, as she may be a separate entity from the Scarlet Witch. This makes it seem as if Wanda is not the only chaos magic-user and Scarlet Witch described in Agatha’s book, “WandaVision.” Because of this, she could be influenced by chaos magic, leading to morally dubious decisions like enslaving Westview, which could be explained by the evil magic and Scarlet Witch’s persona. Her remark to Strange reveals this:

“it won’t be Wanda who comes for her. It will be the Scarlet Witch”.

However, even after WandaVision, she goes backwards when she tampers with the Darkhold. This is confirmed in Sam Raimi’s film, in which she tries to kill America Chavez, a young girl, in order to steal her multiverse-hopping abilities. Wanda could still be redeemed in a future project if the Darkhold is confirmed to be behind her actions and the Scarlet Witch’s chaos magic is also affecting her many gruesome murders like those of Captain Carter and Mr Fantastic.

In Marvel comics, protagonists and their alter egos have been treated as distinct entities in the past. A magical entity like Phoenix Force proves that the Scarlet Witch and Wanda might be two separate beings, just as Bruce Banner and the Incredible Hulk are. Certainly, Wanda was more susceptible to the evil influence of the Darkhold because of her long-buried chaos magic and her renown as the Scarlet Witch. Wanda Maximoff may not be dead at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but she could reclaim her former role as an Avengers member because she is not solely to blame for her actions.
