Spider-Man: Far From Home drew Maria Hill towards a mysterious ending. And this gap in her story can be finally filled with Secret Invasion. Marvel’s next instalment in line is the upcoming Disney+ series. The show stars Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury once again as the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes inspiration from an epic crossover event from the comics.

Secret Invasion’s basic plot focuses mainly on Skrulls. This means that Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn, will also return. Indeed, the shape-shifting aliens have only been part of the MCU for a short period. However, their actions were questionable, especially when it comes to the status of Cobie Smulders’ former SHIELD operative, Agent Maria Hill.

The groundwork for Secret Invasion was set up in 2019 itself. With Captain Marvel, the Marvel Cinematic Universe saw the advent of the Skrulls in the shared universe. And then again, when Spider-Man: Far From Home featured an interesting Skrull element in the post-credits screen. It is not surprising to note that the audiences were hooked to the MCU even more because that was the moment when fans realised that the Nick Fury and Maria Hill is shown in the movie were Skrulls. And that they were to report to the real Nick Fury.

As we continue to move forward into MCU’s Phase 4, more and more twists unfold. This continuously builds the plot for Secret Invasion. Thus revealing how the story will follow after some Spider-Man: Far From Home’s unanswered questions. And now, the series thrives with the potential to deliver on one of the biggest questions posed so far.

Spider-Man: Far From Home delivered immensely on supporting MCU’s future. But like all of Marvel’s movies, the film’s post-credits scene posed a huge question. This concerns the real Maria Hill and what exactly happened to her. The scene reveals that Talos’ wife was impersonating Maria Hill throughout the whole movie. The scene moved forward to show the real Nick Fury on a Skrull spaceship ultimately. However, there was nothing whatsoever about the real Maria Hill and her status in the MCU.

As reports suggest, Cobie Smulders is coming back for Secret Invasion. This leads us to believe that the Spider-Man: Far From Home mystery will finally resolve. There is no news addressing the extent of her role in the series. Although, an appearance itself would be relieving enough for the audiences. And further, the story can elaborate on what led to Maria Hill’s abrupt disappearance.

Maria Hill’s involvement in the MCU so far

Cobie Smulders’ Maria Hill first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through The Avengers. Following her debut, Hill reprised her role in various movies. Although, her involvement was always small. Before her sudden revelation in Spider-Man Far From Home, Hill attended Tony Stark’s funeral in Avengers: Endgame. In addition, Nick Fury was also seen at the funeral. Because Fury later recruited the Skrulls to work for him, it is safe to assume that both Hill and Fury were together in the mission.

Maria Hill’s MCU debut in The Avengers

Essentially, Spider-Man: Far From Home’s post-credits scene raises several suspicions. The MCU has only ever featured the real Maria Hill in all of its movies, making the Skrull twist more suspenseful. Some theories mention Nick Fury as a Skrull in Avengers: Age of Ultron, as well as other prior appearances. This leads us to question Maria Hill’s whereabouts and her secretive actions in the MCU.

Maria Hill’s possible role in Secret Invasion

With Maria Hill making an appearance in Secret Invasion, a lot of these doubts will be cleared. The series will probably share more light on her status during Spider-Man: Far From Home. Possibly somewhere with the real Nick Fury. If so, it would make it simple for Marvel Studios to sneak in Maria Hill into the show. Meaning she was also on the Skrull spaceship with Fury.

If Marvel decides to take a different approach, then Secret Invasion could reveal that Maria Hill is no longer associated with Nick Fury. The other believable role could be a cover for Talos’ wife again. Or the series could show that Hill was a Skrull throughout her journey in the MCU. Whatever be the scenario, Secret Invasion will finally unfold the question regarding Maria Hill’s location following Spider-Man: Far From Home’s mysterious ending.
