She-Hulk Episode 2 showed us that, revealing superhero identity has always been followed by repercussions in the MCU. Jennifer Walters revealed herself as She-Hulk right infront of the entire courtroom. Her intentions were good, but her rapid decision of not holding onto her secret identity, eventually costed her a lot of humiliation.
Jennifer Lost Her Job!
Jennifer Walters was fired from her job because of saving lives. She turning into the She-Hulk without second thoughts has now got the law firms think twice before hiring her. She was so jobless that she started looking for a job of a mascot in some park. It was that bad!
She was lucky that there is an organization with superhero law division, which recruited her because of her She-Hulk powers. Even though she is qualified enough to be a lawyer, now everyone thinks around her that she got the job because of She-Hulk, which Jennifer also mentions in the episode.
It is again a kind of repercussion which is abiding her by the rules to have the job in hand. She criticised Avengers earlier in the episode saying, if they have leaves, incentives, health insurance, life insurance or even if they get paid. In the first episode, Jennifer also mentioned that, she doesn’t want to sign contracts with Government and live a lost life on some stranded island just like Bruce.
But here she is! Even not government, but she has to work for higher authority by giving up his own freedom of choice on cases. The first case she takes is of Emil Blonsky, to which she denies at first, but ultimately to keep the job in hand, she has to hold onto it.
The Repercussions To All Identity Reveals In The MCU
Iron Man’s Revelation
It all started in 2008, with Iron Man when the iconic dialogue in the comics was brought to life in MCU. The billionaire Tony Stark stands behind the microphone among all press employees, confesses and says, “I Am Iron Man!”
Since the day Tony confessed about him being Iron Man, a whole lot of enemies started painting targets on his back. The Government wanted to take this idea of building a weaponised suit, to which Tony denied. We also saw Obadiah stealing Tony’s arc reactor, because he knew where to find it. Every other person has tried to steal or use Tony’s tech and win the battles.
In the movie Captain America: Civil War, we heard Vision giving a brief explanation on how Tony Stark’s revelation triggered a whole lot of events in MCU. Quoting what Vision said in Captain America: Civil War:
“I have an equation.”
“Oh, this will clear it up.”
“In the 8 years since Mr. Stark announced himself as Iron Man, the number of known enhanced persons has grown exponentially. And during the same period, the number of potentially world-ending events has risen at a commensurate rate.”
“I’m saying there may be a causality. Our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict… breeds catastrophe. Oversight… Oversight is not an idea that can be dismissed out of hand.”
It explains the repercussions that Tony Stark caused after revealing his identity. Just because he was a billionaire, he didn’t give a damn about what others think or did back then. He had an aim to protect the Earth, and he did it till his last breath.
Spider-Man’s Revelation
Later, in Spider-Man: Far From Home, we saw Quintin Beck, a.k.a Mysterio reveal Spider-Man’s identity to the media. He said, “Spider-Man’s real name is Peter Parker.” And right from that moment, everything changed for him.
He lost his privacy and also endangered the lives of his friends as well. He didn’t get selected in the MIT, and not even his friends got the chance because they were involved with him. In desperation he approached Doctor Strange to wipe out memory of entire planet and make them forget that Peter Parker is Spider-Man.
In added desperation of wanting few of his companions to remember him, the spell got jeopardised, and few of the old and new Marvel villains entered through the multiversal gates to Earth 616. And this is the repercussion that costed the life of Aunt May. But he eventually realised one good thing, “With great power, comes great responsibility!”.
She-Hulk has got her bit of the repercussion, because her family and the world has already witnessed a Hulk. And when this female version of the Hulk is calm and in control, people are extending their acceptance towards it.
